Draft at the brewpub. Somewhat cloudy red color (or maybe that’s just due to the plastic cup they served it in, although you can’t really blame them with all the post-Giants game drunkies) with a lasting one-finger yellowish tan head. Simcoe hops are big on the aroma, lending a grapefruit and pine note to balance the sweet malts, oak, and mild vanilla. The flavor has some oak, but man, oak aging is the poor man’s barrel aging, that’s for sure. Caramel malt, vanilla, citrus fruits, and pine. A little syrupy on the palate with lower carbonation. Overall not bad, but could use some refining for sure.

Gr0ve (1875) - Oslo, NORWAY - APR 7, 2012
Mahogany red colour. Clear. Small light beige head. Grapefruity hops. Dry caramelly malt flavours. Beer is quite light bodied and dry. Metallic bittering hops. Wooden flavours. Had expected this one to be bolder. Decent, but a little sharp.

GABF 2011. Clear dark gold with a reddish tint. Big burnt caramel aroma with a pleasant pine resin tone along side it, and a touch of citrus. Flavor is big on citrus hops and resin. Finishes with a whole lotta caramel and toffee. Very smooth on a medium-ish palate, with a subdued bitterness.

larsga (4617) - Oslo, NORWAY - JUN 21, 2011
Medium beige head with good cling. Clear deep red body. Grapefruity cat’s pee (damned simcoe) aroma with wooden notes. Sweet-dryish fruity pine needle taste is sort of empty after the initial punch. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dry salty fruity aftertaste with resiny wooden notes. Nice, but a bit strange. (0.4l draft at brewpub.)

bb (4888) - Alamo, California, USA - JUN 17, 2011
Draft. Copper beer with a cream colored head. Grapefruit and light pine aroma. Grapefruit and malt flavor with light darker malts and light earth. Medium bodied. Grapefruit and malt lingers with light darker malts.
