BlackDonald (1039), North Carolina, USA Apr 18, 2008 ABBF ’08 - I love a good oatmeal stout, and this was not bad at all. Strong roasted aroma, melts into some licorice and also lots of sweet toffee as well. Could not really tell this was an oyster stout except for the fact that there is a slightly salty finish, and if I had tasted it blind I would have just said a really well done oatmeal stout. I would like to try this as a food pairing with the right kind of oysters.
DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA Aug 8, 2008 19-Jan-08 (Draft: Connoisseur’s Session, 2008 Great Alaskan Beer and Barley Wine Festival in Anchorage, AK) A dry, moderately bitter, roasty, almost Irish-style stout, but with a chocolaty and yeasty finish. The flavor of oysters is, at most, far in the background. The nose offers dry chocolate, coffee, roasted malts and yes, maybe even a hint of oysters if I use some imagination. Medium-full body, medium carbonation, and dry on the palate, especially in the finish. Dark-brown in color with ruby highlights. The quarter-inch tan head settles to a film and wide ring, leaving some patchy lace on the glass. Overall, a fine, drinkable stout, but not one that is especially interesting. BillKismet (1477), Seattle, Washington, USA Mar 26, 2008 Dark-molasses w. brown sugar top. Pleasant roast barley and coffee smells segue into a moderately dry stout body with good barley character, though no detectable oyster contribution. Papsoe (11076), Frederiksberg, Denmark Mar 22, 2007 (On tap) A black beer with a reddish hue and a creamy, light brown head. Roasted - perhaps slightly burned - aroma. Body is medium with flavours of burned malt, licorice, coffee and smoke. Dry finish without much bitterness. 35 IBUs. 190307 Naven (743), San Diego, California, USA Jul 6, 2006 This beer pours super black, but upon first taste to the mouth, its a quick let down, because it’s actually quite light. Very much in the realm of a british stout. Pretty good, just not my style. I tasted no Oysters, which is good, because I probably would have gagged.
