You might not expect a Saison in winter. But the enemy didn’t expect Washington to cross the icy Delaware, either. Expectations be damned, we say. We’re sneaking up on winter with a boatload of bravado and this Belgian-style farmhouse ale. Dry hopped with whole organic cardamom pods, our Saison has an assertive spiciness. In your face, winter.

Pours a hazy yellow with a white head. Nose is citrus Palate is citrus with slight spice. Fairly straightforward and good example of a saison on the light side. Brett B?

Can served in a tulip glass. Grassy citrus and pepper aroma. Golden body with thin dissipating head. Flavor begins with citrus notes, followed by ginger and pepper. A dry, spicy finish.

Can. Poured a clear yellow color with an average to large frothy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate citrus and ginger, yeast aroma. Medium body with a thin smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium sour citrus flavor with a medium sour & sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectation where met.

12 oz can Whole Foods. Pale straw, just barely hazy, medium white head dissipates into a sparse covering and a thin ring. Aroma banana, bubble gum, spicy, hay, horse farm, acidic citrus; thought it was cloves but I guess it’s cardamom based on the description. Flavor is vastly less intriguing; bready, yeasty, notable bitterness. Mouthfeel is a bit thin and fizzy. A bit underrated in the style.

This is a nice saison. Nice light funky yeast and bready character, with a perfectly placed amount of cardamon to lighten things up. A very zesty, yet lemon-like sweetness adds character to this brew. The after-taste is solid, and one may find awesome floral flavors lingering behind. Zesty, lightly sweet, floral, and bready all in one balanced shot.

Can... Poured clear golden yellow with a moderate white head that faded quickly. Nose had yeast notes and esters with spicing and grapefruit. Nice flora tones, candied malt sweetness, grassy and lemon zest. Peppercorns and yeast spice with a full finish. Bready grains for balance. Not a bad beer. Not the best saison.

Can from PD. Hazy lemon yellow pour with a medium white head fading to a short rim with good retention and leaving moderate lace. Nose is light funk, Belgian yeast and malt - like a dry Belgian Golden. Medium-light body, fine carbonation. Spicy (though the cardamom doesn’t stand out), yeasty and quite tasty, with a nice balance of light Belgian malt, peppery hops, funk and spices. Finish is short, clean and balanced. Dunno if I’d call it sessionable at over 6%, but it’s certainly a very accessible saison.

The Saison continues to rise. 2013 will be the year of the Saison. This one is a Belgian style Farmhouse Ale. very different than the French variety. More unusual spices, but still very appealing.

This beer has a yeasty bread aroma. It pours a cloudy light yellow with a very think head. It is a little bitter but has a little bite which almost tastes a bit like black pepper. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz. can from Dutch’s. Pours a hazy yellow golden color with a large soda like white head that disappears rather quickly. The aroma is Belgian yeast, cardamom, ginger, sweet notes, grass, with some light orange zest. The flavor is biscuity malts, yeast, cardamom, ginger, light orange zest and grassy. Not much in the way of farmhouse like many saisons. This is also a bit watery. Worth taking a shot at this one at least once.
