You might not expect a Saison in winter. But the enemy didn’t expect Washington to cross the icy Delaware, either. Expectations be damned, we say. We’re sneaking up on winter with a boatload of bravado and this Belgian-style farmhouse ale. Dry hopped with whole organic cardamom pods, our Saison has an assertive spiciness. In your face, winter.

12 oz can. Pours hazy pale yellow with a collapsing white head. Aroma is extremely fragrant--I get floral notes (cardamom?), fruit (melon), a hint of funk. Taste is lightly sweet, spicy (clove), a bit sour, savory and finishes dry and lightly bitter. Palate is a little thin. It’s tasty and interesting but it’s missing something.

Tap: hazy light yellow, thin white head. Wheat and clove nose. Flavor starts weizen-like with wheat, clove, a little bubblegum, honey and banana, then moves into a grassy dry finish. I liked most parts of this beer. It was a bit overly dry at the finish and I was hoping for some yeasty flavors to come through, still makes for good drinking.

Pour of hazy yellow gold with a nice white head. Aroma of big spice with hints of wheat and banana. Initial taste of sweet banana that moves into a spicy wheat of light pepper and clove. Med light body that is smooth with a sweet then bitter med linger of that same coriander spice. Over all good beer that leaves its mark of that sneak up spice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours a golden yellow with a thin white head. Decent clarity. Aroma is spicy, cardamom, yeast, and grassy hops. Taste isn’t as spicy as the aroma, notes of cardamom, yeast, fruity esters. Quick, dry finish. Medium light body. Decent carbonation.

Can from Capone’s. Pours turbid canary golden color with 1-finger white head. Nose is funky pale malt, spicy florals, limey citrus. Tastes dry, floral, and spicy, with coriander ad cardamom notes, limey citrus, and a lot of funky yeasty malt flavor. This one is complex and enjoyable.

12oz tin into a pilsner glass, bought from Fred Meyer in S.Salem. $8.99 a sixer. Clear corn oil yellow colour, nice thick creamy white head. Attractive lively carbonation. peppery, yeasty aromas slight dough. nice Taste is moderately spicy wit a touch of bubblegum, some German white wine tones coming through. I likey. Mouthfeel is OK maybe a little too thick and under carbonated for style but still OK. Overall i enjoyed this one nice drink.

12-oz can. Pours a slightly hazy medium gold with a loose and sudsy whitish head. Grassy sweet nose, a little toasted cracker there. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Lots of white pepper and wet grass on the mid palate. Not much else. White peppery finish.
