You might not expect a Saison in winter. But the enemy didn’t expect Washington to cross the icy Delaware, either. Expectations be damned, we say. We’re sneaking up on winter with a boatload of bravado and this Belgian-style farmhouse ale. Dry hopped with whole organic cardamom pods, our Saison has an assertive spiciness. In your face, winter.

Expected this to be a little bit more spicy. A little bland for my tastes.

Pours a very cloudy, dark straw color with golden yellow edges and a 2.5 finger, pillowy white head that very slowly settles into a thick, lasting cap/ring. Very good retention with sporadic spotty lacing coating the glass on the way down. Earthy, musty aroma with peppery spice, bready yeast, ester-y light fruit and funky yeast. Hints of pepper, clove and cardamom along with some bread, banana and bubblegum. This is countered by funky farmhouse yeast along with a bit of cider and pear sweetness. I was expecting more cardamom, spice and farmhouse funk in the nose but the aroma is somewhat pedestrian. Full bodied with a stronger spice presence than the aroma suggests. Some musty, peppery funk with bready yeast, slightly wild farmhouse yeast and bread along with sweeter light fruit flavor toward the finish. Spicy clove, white pepper, ginger, allspice and cardamom up front followed by hints of sourdough bread, banana, apple and pear. The saison/farmhouse character is still a little weaker than I prefer but the cardamom really stands out on the palate especially after it warms up a bit. An interesting take on the style with interesting Indian spices. Not the most complex beer but the spices are refreshing and the ABV in nicely masked making this beer pretty easy to drink.

(can - 12 oz) Hazy light gold with a fizzy white head. Tons of cardamom and spice in the aroma. Flavor matches with the abundance of cardamom but also gives a nice dry and lightly funky tart finish.

12oz can from Brewmasters in Wilson. Golden hue, murky clarity with mostly lasting white fizzy head. Virtually no lacing. Aromas of spice, wheat, grass, sun. Light floral spice up front with more of a lemon and spice finish. Not to shabby.

Hazy yellow, with a big white head. Smells corny, grassy, grainy, with a spicy note or two. Taste is toasty, spicy, some, I dunno, basil? Maybe? Not really sure. Some sort of herbal flavor. I liked it...

Nice aromas of cardamom and allspice. Medium body. Smooth all the way through. A little wheat character. Pairs well with Asian and middle eastern food.

Can. A: Dark gold color with a firm foamy white head. N: Big cardamom, peppercorn, cracker, white wine grape, husk, peppercorn, lemon, and grass. T: A light breadiness with a hint of citrus. Good proportion. M: Lighter body, creamy soft carbonation, no alcohol presence. O: A light saison that’s an easy drinker. Not as rounded or complex as Logsdon’s (for an American version) but this is one I would return to, for sure.

Just nothing super special about this beer...light, refreshing, and great for a hot AZ summer. Dry straw pour with a tightly packed white head and ample carbonation. Spicy, citrusy, peppery, and grassy.

Draft sample at Cherry Blossom Beer & Wine fest, cloudy golden color with white head. Aroma notes of funky yeast, cardamom, lemon and earthiness. Taste adds bread, pepper and herbal notes. Light body, moderate carbonation, crisp with herbal/citrus finish. Nice light saison.

Pour on tap at Red Wagon, hazy golden-yellow pour with white head, aroma brought notes of grass, bread, some bubblegum, hints of wheat into a bit of white fruits, some pepper. Taste was a mix of pepper, grass, bread, hints of biscuit into a bit of white fruit, bubblegum, finishing fairly sweet, slightly spicy.
