In a surprising turn of events, rival superpowers have joined forces to bring a beer of might to the world. According to top-secret documents, recently unclassified, brewmasters for 21st Amendment in California and Ninkasi in Oregon began their brewing careers together many years ago. ALLIES WIN THE WAR! is 21st Amendment Brewery’s first ever collaboration beer, a traditional English-style Strong ale aged on native California dates and dry hopped with all-Northwest aroma hops. Available now in limited edition four-pack cans and draft.

Old ale with dates.

12 oz. can, pours a dark amber brown with a small beige head. Aroma of hops upfront, some bready malts, hints of caramel and dark fruits, and a bit of grapefruit. Flavour is a mellow blend of sweet caramel malts, citrus hops and grapefruit, with some subtle spicy notes thrown in there - the flavour dies on the palate very quickly leaving little aftertaste. Nice subtle flavours, but for 8.5%, this lacks a deep flavour profile. Mildly enjoyable.

Bottle @ Brandon’s house, courtesy of arminjewell. Huge thanks! Reddish orange appearance with a tan head. Soapy, floral hoppy, mild dark fruity, sweet toasty malty aroma. Dark fruity, a touch tangy, soapy, floral flavor.

Can thanks to Leighton at the Night of Garbage. It pours deep amber with a small yellow-white head. The nose is pine, raisin, date, prune, citrus peel and brown bread. The taste is bitter-sweet, date, prune, fig, caramel, sugary, berry, toast and candy with a sweetish finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Smells a bit better than it tastes. Solid stuff nonetheless.

This beer pours a reddish-brown color with a medium beige head that recedes steadily. Rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of toffee, dark fruit and hops. Medium body with flavors of dark malt, figs/dates, hops and a bit of yeast. The finish is fruity with a resinous hops aftertaste. Pretty good all around.
