Sampled from the tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear brown with a red hue and a gray head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has notes of chocolate, dark grain and earthy bread. Flavor starts with chocolate but has an odd earthy bread, must and plastic note in the finish.

On tap at the brewpub. Comes reddish brown with a decent biege head. Aroma of roasted malt and chocolate. Taste is roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, and nuts. Pretty good. Easy drinker.

Pours a brownish amber with a medium creamy tan head that laced. Aroma of honey roasted nuts and milk chocolate. Flavor of peanuts, toasted bread and light caramel.

Dark orangish brown with a fluffy off white head. Good strong malted barley roasted grain and nutty aroma and taste with a full bodied palate. Not bad.

On tap at the brewpub in August 2008.
Poured a moderately dark chestnut brown with an off white head and a bit of sticky lacing as it made its way down the glass. Nose had a touch of light roast along with nice notes of caramel, toffee, and sweet malt. Perhaps a touch of chocolate. Taste was a bit more standard malt without some of the nuances of the nose that intrigued me. Mouthfeel was good with a medium body and decent carbonation levels. Not a bad offering at all. Enjoyed this place and will go back next time we are in Lawrence.

Tap at 23rd Street. Pours clear brown with an average, frothy beige head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (caramel, chocolate, toasted, nutty), light hops (herbal, earthy), and light esters (dried fruit). Flavor is heavy malt (cookie, caramel, toasted), light hops (earthy, herbal), and light esters (dried fruit). Medium body, carbonation, and creaminess, low warmth with a medium sweet finish.

Draft at 23rd. Pours a brune body with an off white head. Earth y spruce, dark nut y tawny character. Light coco and chocolate malts. Nutty a hint of fig. Nice.

Tap @ 23rd Street with beastiefan2k. Medium brown color. Nice toasted flavor. Aroma of toasted malts. Nice malt. Light hop. Great toasted grain flavors all through the finish.

Shaker @ brewpub, numerous times through numerous batches. Color is dark brown with just a few lighter edges. Aroma is lightly prune watery malts with a thick earthy, soil-like maltiness. faint sweet hops as well. Taste is a very "real" brown, just thick , earthy, and toasty. The mix works great. A light bitterness from the malts at the end. A fuller, thicker mouthfeel adds very nicely to the structure of the beer. One of the best brown ales I have ever had, always like to see this on tap at the brewpub. It has actually been better at other times than this batch that I am rating.
