COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hopped for 120 minutes, 90 minutes, 20 minutes & 5 minutes. Then an additional 5 pounds in the fermenter for dry hopping. This beer has 31 pounds and 5 different hops to make an extremely hoppy beverage, with a very light roast and chocolate flavor at the end. The color comes from de-bittered Belgian black malt. Hops: Cluster, Chinook, Cascade, Simcoe & Centennial. SRM: 27.7 ABV: 7.43%

Numerous shaker pours at the brewpub and a whole pitcher once. This was a very good brew for this brewpub, who usually fail at more "extreme" styles. This is exactly what a black IPA should be like. Black color with a tan head that sticks around. Light roast is easily discernible in the flavor. Hops abound in both aroma and flavor. The beer is well attenuated and has a light, very drinkable body to boot. I could drink these rather easily without noticing the alcohol at all. So if you want roast and hops (smorgasbord of American hops) that is easy to put down than this is your kind of beer.

First rating? On tap at the Brewery, which identified this as an India Black Ale. Pours dark, dark, dark. Opaque, with a dark khaki head, and small fish eyes that formed the shape of a continent from a 1400’s map. Smelled of citrus/hops, roasted malts, coffee, and a subtle cracked pepper note, under a mild sugary sweetness umbrella. Tasted very hoppy, with a baker’s chocolate quality, roasted malt, and, oh yeah, hops. Thick mouth feel. Edit: I had mistakenly written the brewery IDed this as an India Brown Ale.
