2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20 faroeviking (10300) - FAROE ISLANDS - FEB 1, 2008
Bottle bought in Riga. Amber colour. String herby, ginger, medicine and juniper aroma. Very strong herby juniper and indeed liquorice, ginger, spiced flavour.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 FatPhil (7511) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - JAN 10, 2008
330ml bottle (Poseidon, Helsinki)
Reddy orange, tiny head. Smells a bit like candle wax, with a sweet accompaniament of ginger. Taste is relatively disappointing, somewhat thin and plasticky. Quite spicy though, but it doesn’t have the beery body to carry all the spice and the sweetness - and yes, it is too sweet. Can’t identify the predominant spice (it looks like no-one can!), but it’s a bit christmassy, and I think cardamom and Anna thinks nutmeg.
2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20 pivnizub (8000) - Bochum, Porúří, GERMANY - DEC 4, 2007
Bottle (333ml): Clear, copper coloured, smaller off-white foamy layer, dominating aromas of german Lebkuchen (a kind of ginger-bread, spiced with cinnamon, cardamom and all-spice) or of a horrible Glühwein, some hardly detectable malt in the background; moderate sweet flavour with a very light bitterness, medium bodied, a bit sticky; sweet-spicy finish with a moderate bitterness in the aftertaste. This brew s*cks, an awfully spiced beer, suitable for the lousy german Christmas fairs.........
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Quack-Duck (6811) - Down South, GERMANY - OCT 30, 2007
bottle. Amber colour, large head, perfumy aroma. Sweetish and malty body, lots of flavours to be detected here: vanilla, honey, cardamom, ginger... Quite interesting beer, not too sweet, wel rounded by a hoppy bitterness in the finish.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 oh6gdx (18576) - Vasa, FINLAND - OCT 25, 2007
Bottled@Hostina, Helsinki. Amber colour, mediumsized white head. Aroma is a lot of juniper with some mild hints of wood. Flavour is juniper, wood and quite much grass. Really pleasant. Long junipery aftertaste.
2.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 thewolf (9887) - Kolding, DENMARK - JUN 15, 2007
UPDATED: JUL 3, 2008 Bottle. [thank you motelpogo]. Slightly pale orange brown with a thin film head. Aroma is very special. Lots of herbs. Basil, cardemum... more. It smells like walking into a perfume/soap shop. Flavour is slightly bitter, dry and herbal. Not a particularly pleasant experience. Interesting, but not very good. 7/2/6/2/5 = 2.2
Rerate from bottle in Brno:
Pours the same pale orange, but maintains a fine, frothy offwhite head. Aroma still resembles a soap shop, there are clear peppermint notes that I didn’t pick up before. Flavour is okay, some clear medicine notes - though the peppery edge is well executed. Better than my first rating. 7/3/6/3/12 = 3.1
1.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20 ChrisThomson (522) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 6, 2007
Prague-07. Nothing special here. Had amber colour with aroma of cut grass, nutmeg and flowers. Taste was too sweet with spicy notes.
1.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 imdownthepub (8492) - Banbury, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - OCT 29, 2006
Bottled, pasteurised, 300ml from Pivovarsky Klub. Mid amber with white head. Highly perfumed, soapy beer, like a lemon washing up liqued. Some apricot on the finish. Not very pleasant.
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 Mungo (2472) - Southampton, Hampshire, ENGLAND - OCT 14, 2006
Bottle (from Dum). Herby spicy nose. Hints of liquoricey Becherovka and too much ginger. Ginger carries through to finish and is joined by some light caramelly malts. A bit thin and spicy nature dominates.
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 JK (3966) - Uptown, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - AUG 12, 2006
This is a pleasant spiced beer that reminds me of Viking Juleol. Nutmeg, coriander, cinnamon, and while still cold; eucalyptus. Thin and light; almost refreshing.
