COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Origin of name: This beer is named after its unique garnet red-brown color (darker than most dark beers). The color of Černá Hora Granát could lead its consumer to call it a "black beer". Taste: it is characterized by its fullness, sweetness and very dark color. A high proportion of Bavarian, caramel and coloring malt based on a longstanding recipe gives the beer its unmistakable caramel taste and markedly influences its bitterness. It is distinguishable by its good head and vigor. Has won 1st place in category of dark lagers upon competition - "The Golden Cup PIVEX - BEER 1999". Winning competition "Dočesná Žatec" in 1995 -1999 years

Bottle, 0.50l, courtesy of CanCrusher. Clear ruby brown color with large creamy light brown head, fair lacing and average sparkling appearance. Aroma of caramel, mild roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and grassy hops. Taste starts with light sweet caramel malt, follows by mildly roasted malt and grassy sourness, while finish is moderate bitter. Medium body, slick texture and soft carbonation in palate. Very drinkable everyday beer...

A very enjoyable black beer. It pours with a medium head, is dark brown. Aroma is gentle, taste refreshing and full. A very good dunkel beer. One of my favourites Czech beers.

Dark almost black in appearance. Taste was expected for a Tmavy Lezak. A fairly good flavor without a funky after taste that I experienced with quite a few of the local beers.

Bottle shared at a tasting at the Beer and Beyond shop. Brown with beige head. Date honey, date, diacityl and some cheesecake aroma, dry, a little smoky, delicate bitter-roastiness in the mouth. Medium-bodied, dry finish. Surprisingly good.

Bottle sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks kerenmk. Clear brown with a beige head. Aroma has mild roastiness with a light smoky note, malt, caramel, a bit of dark bread, a nutty hint and a faint diacetyl note. Slightly roasty flavor, slightly smoky, with caramel, some bread and a dry, more roasty, slightly bitter and herbal finish. Medium-bodied. Not bad.

Dirty-beige head, slowly collapsing over clear but dark-chestnut beer. Nose is sweet-chocolate & liquorice; further undergrowth, dark leaves, brown bread and rainwater. Rather dry, woody and again leafy flavours, with an undercurrent of sweet bread-and-chocolate. Rather good balance, as there is also a touch of acidity. Warming up, just a tad too much caramelly sweetness welling up. Very present carbonation, spritzy. Medium bodied at best, creamy head thanks to its stability. More dry than bitterish. Surprisingly good tmavý, certainly seen the deplorably poor polotmavý. Thanks, Peter!

Jan 2013. Bottle. Dark brown with big beige head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate with some bread. A bit roasty with medium bitterness in the finish. Malty caramel sweetness. Medium bodied, medium carbo. Too watery.
