COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Origin of name: This beer is named after its unique garnet red-brown color (darker than most dark beers). The color of Černá Hora Granát could lead its consumer to call it a "black beer". Taste: it is characterized by its fullness, sweetness and very dark color. A high proportion of Bavarian, caramel and coloring malt based on a longstanding recipe gives the beer its unmistakable caramel taste and markedly influences its bitterness. It is distinguishable by its good head and vigor. Has won 1st place in category of dark lagers upon competition - "The Golden Cup PIVEX - BEER 1999". Winning competition "Dočesná Žatec" in 1995 -1999 years

[bottle from Galerie Pivni] Dark orange-brown, clear, fizzy, clingy, little islandy patches of white. Plenty of toasted malt fills the nose combined with even some smokiness and a nice sour, burnt aroma. Limited hops aroma. Sweet and smooth coffee malt flavour with significant bitterness which lasts in conjunction with the coffee flavour throughout. Notes of mint. Medium body, a bit mouth coating, moderate carbonation.

Pours a clear brown color with a ring of white lace. Aroma of boiled vegetables, malt and sweetness. Ordinary flavor of malt, sweetness and boiled vegetables. Light to medium body, moderate carbonation.

The Lure:
Dark chocolate and roasted nuts slither sensually onto the fruitiness. Vegetal notes worry through the roastiness.

The Festivities:
Roasted malts offer bitterness towards the end, and chocolate sweetness upfront. A mineral dryness and vegetal leafiness don’t exactly blend well with the aforementioned malt evolution. Either this beer is much better on tap (which is highly possible), or it is very variable in bottles. Or both. Anyway, I feel I didn’t get the quality some of my fellow raters tasted.

Transcendence:
Forgetting something in the stove just a little too long.

Tap. Clear ruby red colour. Medium, lacey head. Cohoclatey, coffeish aroma. Sweet, chocolatey taste. Not too sweet; not at all. Delicious flavour. Slightly bitter-chocolatey finish. This is really a nice and balanced beer.

Toasted malt nose, clear dark brown with a sticky tan head. Warm round chocolate and caramelly flavors balanced by a light hoppying. Good balace and a solid simple dark lager.

UPDATED: AUG 23, 2005 Good beer; sweet, rich and caramelly and very drinkable and full of character. The full bodied taste is very mellow and yet flavoursome. Lots of caramel, toffee and even orchard fruit in the long finish. Lovely. (Draught at Černohorský Sklep, Brno)

This beer is a great mighty brew. It reminds me a bit of Vierzehnheiligen Klosterbock; a malty sweet and perfectly well-balanced beer. Camamelly and bitter at the same time. Amazingly complex! And very cheap!!! 0.5 $
