3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle (BB Sep 06). Deep mahogany colour. Toasty, roasty, fruity caramel and some smooth malts. Fullish, with carbonation pulling it down, but refreshing body not too sweet with glimpses of hop in the finish. Some slight charred edges to the roast flavours. Tasty.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Deep clear copper with a great rocky off-white head. Caramel, a tiny bit of chocolate and some spices in the aroma. The body is quite sweet and full. With loads of caramel, but little hops in the flavour. The finish does have some decent bitterness however.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle (Pivni Galerie Praha) Deep ruby amber coloured, sweet-malt, caramel and a touch of molasses in the nose, even a tinge of floral hops is detectable; robust bitter-seet flavour; drier, deceptive malty-bitter, almost chocolatey finish, even some hoppines in the aftertaste. A well rounded, very well balanced pleasant pivo.............

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
[bottle from Galerie Pivni]
Dark orange-brown, clear, fizzy, clingy, little islandy patches of white. Plenty of toasted malt fills the nose combined with even some smokiness and a nice sour, burnt aroma. Limited hops aroma. Sweet and smooth coffee malt flavour with significant bitterness which lasts in conjunction with the coffee flavour throughout. Notes of mint. Medium body, a bit mouth coating, moderate carbonation.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Dark chocolate and roasted nuts slither sensually onto the fruitiness. Vegetal notes worry through the roastiness.
Roasted malts offer bitterness towards the end, and chocolate sweetness upfront. A mineral dryness and vegetal leafiness don’t exactly blend well with the aforementioned malt evolution. Either this beer is much better on tap (which is highly possible), or it is very variable in bottles. Or both. Anyway, I feel I didn’t get the quality some of my fellow raters tasted.
Forgetting something in the stove just a little too long.

Tap. Clear ruby red colour. Medium, lacey head. Cohoclatey, coffeish aroma. Sweet, chocolatey taste. Not too sweet; not at all. Delicious flavour. Slightly bitter-chocolatey finish. This is really a nice and balanced beer.
