COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Origin of name: This beer is named after its unique garnet red-brown color (darker than most dark beers). The color of Černá Hora Granát could lead its consumer to call it a "black beer". Taste: it is characterized by its fullness, sweetness and very dark color. A high proportion of Bavarian, caramel and coloring malt based on a longstanding recipe gives the beer its unmistakable caramel taste and markedly influences its bitterness. It is distinguishable by its good head and vigor. Has won 1st place in category of dark lagers upon competition - "The Golden Cup PIVEX - BEER 1999". Winning competition "Dočesná Žatec" in 1995 -1999 years

[bottle from Galerie Pivni] Dark orange-brown, clear, fizzy, clingy, little islandy patches of white. Plenty of toasted malt fills the nose combined with even some smokiness and a nice sour, burnt aroma. Limited hops aroma. Sweet and smooth coffee malt flavour with significant bitterness which lasts in conjunction with the coffee flavour throughout. Notes of mint. Medium body, a bit mouth coating, moderate carbonation.

Dark brown pour. Slight tan/khaki head that leaves a little lacing around. Malty aroma with some roasty backings. Little bit of a metallic presence noted. Sweet matliness with a nice coffee roasted flavor. The metallic presence shows up again in the aftertaste. Not annoying, but still there. Not a bad beer at all.

Toasted malt nose, clear dark brown with a sticky tan head. Warm round chocolate and caramelly flavors balanced by a light hoppying. Good balace and a solid simple dark lager.

Bottle (BB Sep 06). Deep mahogany colour. Toasty, roasty, fruity caramel and some smooth malts. Fullish, with carbonation pulling it down, but refreshing body not too sweet with glimpses of hop in the finish. Some slight charred edges to the roast flavours. Tasty.

Deep ruby, near black beer with a fine creamy beige head. Aroma of toffee, some roasted grains, caramell and mild dark chocolate. Medium bodied one with caramel and toffe flavor, mild roasted and earthy malt again, some sourish bottom-fermentation character. Mild roasted caramel aftertaste.

Bottle. I remember tasting this first in Sternberk,CZ. Pours deep brown with an appealing red when held to the light. Nice beige head also. Light malty aroma. Flavour is light grassy hay hops and a touch of chocolate/caramel. Refreshing and easy drinking. Delicious.

This beer is a great mighty brew. It reminds me a bit of Vierzehnheiligen Klosterbock; a malty sweet and perfectly well-balanced beer. Camamelly and bitter at the same time. Amazingly complex! And very cheap!!! 0.5 $

Pitch black color. Smells malty, very reserved, with hints of sweet coffee. Starts roasted malty, very recent and slightly bitter aftertaste. It has a really strong intense flavor, especially in the middle part is the aftertaste strong coffee-like.
