Sampled on tap at the 2nd annual Urban Chestnut Wolpertinger party in a dimple mug. It poured an opaque, very dark brown colour, red hue at the edges, with fluffy, long-lasting beige foam and lots of lace. Perfect appearance. Aromas of malt, roasty grains, coffee, chocolate, toast. Flavour was just as good and complex: bready, tart, toasty, hints of plums, raisins, black coffee and dark chocolate again. Utterly delicious. Medium body and carbonation, chewy mouthfeel, lingering multilayered bittersweet aftertaste. Definitely another highlight of the event. Keep it up, 2nd Shift!

Tap at the brewery’s tasting room. Pours a mostly opaque dark brown with a little tan head that leaves a lasting ring the entire time. Aroma of rich, roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, toast, molasses, and a little earth. The flavor almost exactly follows suit, with a lot of coffee and chocolate, roasted malts, earth, and caramel and molasses sweetness. The body is just a little thin and under-carbonated, but barely; I’d call it light-medium bodied. Roasty, smooth mouthfeel. Still, this is an awesome stout and I actually liked it just a touch better than the LSD imperial stout upon my first try of both.

Draft. Pour is dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is pretty standard but solid with hints of chocolate, light roasted malt, and a hint of cream. Flavor is also very standard with roasted malt, a light chocolate hint and a clean roasted finish. No complaints here, very straight forward stout.

Capped 750 from Wine & Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours black with a 4 finger creamy/foamy tan head. Through the head I can only get chcolate and some dark malt. Med minus body. Flavor is dark chocolate and a burnt malt that reminds of the old style Guinness. There’s coffee in it, and something like citrus hop? Basically it’s pretty dry, and bitter. The dominant flavor seems to be the malt. I was hoping Cat Spit related to Cat Piss, but it’s pretty good stuff thanks to the malt bitter.

750ml Bottle (at 4.8%ABV per the Bottle.): Got in trade from Phaleslu; THANKS Peter! Aroma of malt, chocolate, roasting, light lactose, light bitter coffee, and a hint of maple molasses. Poured black in color with a small, creamy, dense, tan head that lasted throughout. Opaque. Sparkling. Flavor is light to medium sweet and slightly bitter. Tastes much like it smells, of malt, chocolate, roasting, light lactose, light bitter coffee, slight hops, and some burnt malt. Medium body. Slightly chalky texture. Average carbonation. Malt, roasting, chocolate, light lactose, slight hop finish is slightly dry.

Sampled at UCBC Wolpertinger 2013 - Pours dark brown with a tan head. The aroma has lots of chocolate, smooth roast and some coffee. It has a medium smooth body with a light amount of carbonation. The taste has bitter roasty malt, coffee and cocoa powder. The finish is very bitter and quite a bit of coffee. Pretty good.
