German for "dark wheat", Dunkelweizen has a lot going on. This is a very flavorful German style dark wheat beer. It is unfiltered and gets its cloudiness from a good amount of dark wheat. A bit of chocolate adds a burnt coffee like flavor and a classic German yeast strain gives a delicate balance of banana and clove. It all comes together with a lot of carbonation, a beautiful deep amber color and a thick tan head.

Pint pour of mild to deep brown, caramel with off white head. Nose is bready and light caramel, light toffee. Flavor is bready and light banana notes, but more malt notes than banana, little to no clove, which I’m okay with. Medium body, pretty smooth. Nothing spectacular, honestly.

Enjoyed a sample of this beer on tap at the brewpub. The beer had an amber-brown color with a hazy, deep-orange hue, and a creamy off-white head with average retention, but good cling and lacing. The aroma had some banana and floral notes, along with bits of clove and yeast, and a light grainyness. Its taste was a sweet mix of malty banana and toffee, with lighter sweet chocolate, and a bit of coffee and yeast. It was fairly wet and watery in the mouth, and on the lighter and creamier side, with low-to-average carbonation.

Tap at shamrock Sarasota. Deep brown amber. A bit less hazy than I would have thought. White head good lacing. Toasted caramel malt some banana clove yeast, rounded with some softness from the wheat. Well crafted and all around good beer.

A pretty decent dunkel, though the flavor profile is a little thin. I've had better. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draught at the brewpub as part of a flight on January 22, 2014.
As "Brown Pelican Dunkel".
Murky brown color, off-white head. Sweet, alcohol, nutty, berry taste, a bit smoked. Light smoked aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel, low bitterness. Acidic, light smoked scent. Sort of fruity.
