German for "dark wheat", Dunkelweizen has a lot going on. This is a very flavorful German style dark wheat beer. It is unfiltered and gets its cloudiness from a good amount of dark wheat. A bit of chocolate adds a burnt coffee like flavor and a classic German yeast strain gives a delicate balance of banana and clove. It all comes together with a lot of carbonation, a beautiful deep amber color and a thick tan head.

Malts: Two row pale, Dark wheat, Biscuit, Chocolate, Crystal
Hops: Tettnanger
Yeast: Top fermenting ale

Keg at the brewery druing RBWG Booze Buseday 20/02/15. Lightly hazed chestnut brown with a decent beige covering. Nose is malt, spice, banana, yeast esters. Taste is a little harsh and unrefined, bitter dark fruit rinds, toffee, light spice, brown bread. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok if a touch harsh at times.

The dunkel is sharp in mouthfeel. It is bubbly and smooth. The flavor is mild but enjoyable. There is no sweetness, the flavor is a bit earthy, like pine nuts. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Enjoyed at the 3 Daughters brewery stop of the rbwg2015 bus tour. Poured up on tap where it exhibits an amber to copper colored body that supports a tan head. The aroma offers up raisins and prunes and then a bit of malts and roasted malts. The taste delivers roasted malts, prunes and caramel malts with a touch of chocolate and a faint astringent dryness going into the finish
