COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Armand’4 Herfst Oude Geuze is a blend of 1, 2 and 3 year old Lambic, brewed, aged, blended and bottled by Armand Debelder. This one-time and possibly the last bottling comes in a fancy Asti Spumante Champagne bottle. Armand only used Challenger hops in this brew. He’s in fact the only lambic-brewer to use Challenger hops to make his Geuze. 60 % malted barley, 40 % wheat, aged hops and water. Each season’s geuze has an unique and different blend.

Bottle @ CBC Clerkenwell. The pour’s deep amber gold with a medium white head. Strong, expressive nose. Plenty of greek yoghurt. Sharp woody, earthy, barnyard aroma’s. Unwashed dog. Some earl gray tea. Mild tart tang. The taste is similarly brash. Plenty of sharp acid, lemon. Key lime pie sherbet. A bit of sugared wood and marshmallow. Rustic brett goodness in the finish. Light body, full carbonation. Overall, probably the most aggressive of the seasons I’ve tried. Quite cool.

Bottled. Amber color with rich frothy foam. Dry woody nose with hints of oak, grapefruit and brett. Flavour is dry woody and grapefruit, with notes of goat cheese, ripe green apple and oak. Low acidity here. Musty mouthfeel. Almost puckering mouthfeel. Really complex.

750ml bottle that was a huge gusher. Hazy dark amber with a nice dark biege head. Lots of funk, some farmhouse, somewhat sour, bit of leather, some lemon, musty. Full body, moderate carbonation, sour and tart, becomes quite dry, acidic, long finish, and I think right up there with Lente. What a beer.

Sampled at the CCB/RateBeer/Pre-Hunah Tasting (Tampa, FL). Pours a richer deep amber pour, darker haze, deeper with frothy with nice hazy frothy lacing head. Aromas are lemon, lime, a touch more vibrant citrusy, touches of bread, dough, and some oak. Gentle lactic, touches of sweetness, oak, touches of bready malts, some mellow sweetness, oak and brett. Initial is a bit more sour, citrus rind, lime and lemon, crab apple, pear. Some bready malts, yogurt and straw. Nice flavors. Middle is a bit more tart and wild, funky and straw, sweeter fruit and malt elements as we move on. A bit sweeter, a bit more mellow. Finish is dry, tart and sour, lemon and yogurt, oak and straw. A touch sweet and doughy. Least developed for me. Solid though
