COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Armand’4 Herfst Oude Geuze is a blend of 1, 2 and 3 year old Lambic, brewed, aged, blended and bottled by Armand Debelder. This one-time and possibly the last bottling comes in a fancy Asti Spumante Champagne bottle. Armand only used Challenger hops in this brew. He’s in fact the only lambic-brewer to use Challenger hops to make his Geuze. 60 % malted barley, 40 % wheat, aged hops and water. Each season’s geuze has an unique and different blend.

Tasted from a corked and caged 750mL bottle at a tasting in early 2011. Pours hazy burnt orange with an average white head that leaves just a thin collar of lace. The nose is dark for a gueze with berry fruit, lemon and vinegar acid, and just touches of malt and vinegar oak. The flavor is more intensely sour than I expected given the nose, with some white wine vinegar, plenty of lemon, and a bit of berry fruit, vanilla, and light malt. The body is medium and tannic with average carbonation and a long tannic and dark, sour finish.

Bottle. Pours murky orange with overflowing exploding white head. Nose/taste of nectarine, funky citrus, aged cheese, dry oak, peach and funky tartness. Medium body. Finishes dryish and moderately tart. Very well balanced.

Bottle from frank, with Bill and Frank. Pours murky cloudy brown orange, not much head or lace. Aromas and taste of peachy gueuze, dusty oak, funky citrus fruits, wheat, barn, orange, champagne, cheese and acid, layered and flavorful. We cracked 2 bottles because the first lacked the regular carbonation.. cork must have jostled a bit. 2nd was insane with heavy carbonation and even more acidity. Easy going and puckery refreshing finish. World Class sour ale.

UPDATED: OCT 9, 2012 75 cl. Champagne styled bottle @ home // bought this one way back, the thing has been taking up space, ever since because after Lente sold out I expected these to sell out rather quickly, could have just bought it today and saved the space // oh, well // with the opening of the new brewery, I suppose this bottles did their work // lot 02/04/2010 - BBF. 04/2020 // light gusher, quite lively // mandarin orange toffee, almost touch red, big white head, slowly collapsing until nothing remains // smells of orange peel, mandarins, 3F vintage musty, earthly mushrooms, horse blanket, spices, citrus fruits, lemon acidity, touch cellar // tastes of mandarins, tangerine, 3F funk, little of that musty earthly mushroom-ness in flavour as opposed to taste, spices & herbal as well, round citrus, touches of red wine barrel, some lacto, brett more prominent, reasonable sourness in the back, spices, overall lots of those dissoluble kids vitamin C tables to be found here // carbonation is crazy but fitting but body is like 100 % carbonation like Schweppes tonic or something // nice stuff here - had a nother one of these / split courtesy of Dylan / Kraddel - still lovely stuff - I like the others more personally, also a gusher, more bitter finish than the rest

Murky amber color with a rocky, ivory hued head that lingers. Very nice dry hay, dandelion, dry wood, spring pollen, tart lemon, mild caramel aromas. medium body with average co2. Tart lemon flavors at first gives way to dry wood, mushrooms, spicy hop, dandelion, fresh meadow flavors--not super sour or tart so it’s pretty easy drinking gueze--love it

Poured from a 750 mL bottle into a tulip. Compared with Lente, Zomer, and Winter side by side. Herfst has a dark golden color, a typical coloring for a gueuze. There is a full off-white head that bubbles up and fades to a thin cap after a few minutes. The aroma has a more musty character than Lente or Zomer. Hay, mushrooms, and funky cheese are all mildly presented, with a tart lemon background. Once Herfst hits my tongue, it is more obvious; this is not going to be the most tart of the group. There is the lemon presence I noticed in the other Armand seasons, but there are also some peach and apricot notes. There is a noticeable graininess in the flavor to go along with the hay and musty cheese flavor, with a lemon kick turning the flavor solidly sour at the end. The carbonation is noticeable Drie Fonteinen, in this case meaning light, fluffy, and bubbling in my mouth like tonic water. The body of the beer is about the same as the others or maybe a touch lighter. The feel is on the dry side as well. Trying all of these beers side by side is definitely an experience. Even though this was not my favorite of the series, I still enjoyed it greatly and would be happy to have it again.

Bottle. Gusher. Orange golden pour with white head. Light tones of Brett and acetic with tart fruit aromas. Flavor is subtle for sour and acetic tones, still nice.

Another one of these great Armand 4 that I have had waiting for me almost a year. Went off with a bang when popped. Also pretty lively when poured so leaving a huge White fluffy head ón top of the hazy Dark orange-brownish body. Aroma is a bit citric, like pomelo with a touch og lactoses. It has this typical barnyard thing to it. The taste is not as multi dimensional as the two others i have had but more narrow. It has a long tart sourness with a long grapy finish topped with some flavours that makes mé Think of bread gruble. Its a little oily in the mouth but still with a sharp sourness that softens it up. I love these beers, but still the Lente version to me was the best. Cheers

Pour out of 750 mL bottle, hazy orange red pour with white head, aroma has notes of lemon, biscuit, some nice lactic, touch of cheese and basement notes, slight hints of earth, touch of dusty notes with a hint of fruit in there as well. Taste is a mix of vanilla, lemon and lactic, some slight white fruits in there with some cheese, basement, hints of earth, finishing fairly sour and with some more white fruit.
