COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Armand’4 Herfst Oude Geuze is a blend of 1, 2 and 3 year old Lambic, brewed, aged, blended and bottled by Armand Debelder. This one-time and possibly the last bottling comes in a fancy Asti Spumante Champagne bottle. Armand only used Challenger hops in this brew. He’s in fact the only lambic-brewer to use Challenger hops to make his Geuze. 60 % malted barley, 40 % wheat, aged hops and water. Each season’s geuze has an unique and different blend.

Hazy orange with a huge rough off white head. Sour nose with wood, hay, sour apples, brett and leather. Flavor was a bit more sour than lente and zomer. Found notes of wood, hay, leather and lemon. Finished dry and sour.

Bottle split with JF at a Sue’s away mini tasting in the ’Sham, 11/03/14, from an IP trade at Borefts ’13. Hazed dark orange amber with a good sized off white head that retains well. Nose is sharp citric fruit, musty, horseblanket, funky, twangs, citric tinged straw, touch of dry rot. Taste comprises dank wood, Grandads shed, light acidic tinges, bitter lemon rind, ripe apple, funky, tarte grape skin. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, tarte citric licks in a drying close. Solid top draw gueuze, words don’t really do it justice!

Lukaduke (2059) - Portland, Maine, USA - MAR 5, 2014
Pours a deep golden almost copper color with a finger of gaseous foam. The nose is heavy earthy mushroom, soured peaches, dusty lemon and some underlying musty barrel notes. The palate follows with a smooth soft mouthfeel, lots of complexity bordering the earthy and fruity with a big dose of dusty citrus and rotten stonefruit. Long puckering finish.

Bottle shared thanks to Lukaduke! Pours cloudy orange with a finger of head. Nose is musty citrus fruit, peach, lime, tangerine, superb funk. Taste is juicy tart funky lime, lemon, orange zest, peach, oak, dank wood. Finish is dry tart oaky wood, dank citrus zest, funk, hay, orange. A treat to have tried, this was spectacular!

Bottled, thanks to caesar for sharing. Hazy golden colored, medium head. Beautiful gueuze nose, sourness, farm, horseblanket, sour fruit. Sour flavor, but certainly not overly, lots of fruity notes, some tartness. Wonderfully balanced gueuze, and imho substantially better than the Lente.

Bottled, lot 02/04/2010 BB 2020, large sample. Slight hazy golden color, short head. Aroma has horseblanket and barnyard, funk, some spicy autumn leaves like stuff. Wonderfully complex, but all very balanced, not overpowering on tart or funky aroma’s. Soft sour in taste, hint of sweetness. Quite high on carbonation, but just perfect for the beer. It has been a while I had some of the other Armand’4s, but this one suits the moment perfectly.

Bottle shared at Bruce’s birthday with Maneliquor and thepeter, immediately after tasting the Winter. This pours bright amber, touch lighter than Winter, huge white head that takes a while to calm down. Nose is lighter and spritzier than Winter. Light funky, light horse blanket, sour acidic, lemon, Champagne yeast, green apples. Taste is sour, Champagne yeasty, light funky, lemon, green apples, cider apple, apple skins. Light and bubbly, lemonade, horse blanket, slight flinty minerals. It’s lighter and less complex, and less depth in terms of aromas and tastes than Winter, but has a Champagne feel to it which is light and delicate. Freshness and bubbles.

UPDATED: FEB 9, 2014 Bottle shared at Bruce’s birthday thanks hugely to Ed. Pours bright orange with a dense white head. Plenty of lacing here. Nose is lemon driven, horse blanket, mild biscuit and tropical fruits. Very nice but lacks that extra dimension that the Winter has in the aroma. Taste is tropical fruits, citrus zest, huge balanced tang and funk and very light musk. Balance is superb. Carbonation is too over the top for me. Probably a touch oxidised with the age. Winter just pips this one. Very good

Bottle shared by Travlr, poured into a wine-style tasting glass. Pours a hazy peach/apricot yellow with an off-white head. Aromas of grass, tart and sour fruit, grapes, funk, light vinegar. Tastes of grass, funk, tart fruit, sour, citrus, vinegar, acidic notes. Light-medium body with a dry finish.

Bottle from travl! Same funky sawdust and barnyard funk, great sour funk taste that goes great with a burger
