gEUS (1430) - Linden, BELGIUM - DEC 21, 2014
Bottle shared at a 3 Fonteinen tasting... at 3 Fonteinen. Full line-up rank (highest first): Blauw, 50th, Millennium, Lente, Roze, Zomer, 1999. Compared Lente next to Zomer, accompagnied by some cheeses. While the Lente is well-balanced ad very floral in its characteristics, Zomer is way more smoother and perhaps a tad too silky, which went well with the fresh goat cheeses and Chaource. But again, the delta’s between the two are minor and totally subjective AND we totally negligible in the light of the total beer puddle :-).

Pours thick unclear amber with a big creamy beige head and decent lacing. Aroma brings sweet yeasty notes with a little sweet tart Belgian candi sugar. Flavor brings tart sweet yeast do balanced and delicious, dry yet juicy at the same time. Wow!!! Body is carbonated perfectly and will hold for a while I am sure.

Refrigerated bottle poured into a glass. Hazy golden with big white head. Aroma is tart lemon, medium body, well carbonated and good small-bubble lacing. Taste is great sour lemon. My over all favorite beer of the tasting. I preferred this to 3 Fonteinen Vintage Oude Geuze, but would have loved to try this side-by-side with Golden Blend.

Bottle at Akkurat, shared with new friends from RateBeer. Pours a cloudy light amber with a low white head. Aromas of funk, farmhouse, earthy musk notes, apple and grass. Taste is funky and grassy, with apple and farmhouse notes and some citrus notes as well. Mouthfeel is dry and sprightly yet a nice smoothness as well. Great stuff!

Bottle: cloudy light medium head. Cheesy, very sour. Dry, very sour and low bitterness. Very long and elegant. The cage had rusted and the bottle was moulds and the cork nearly rooted. The beer was surprisingly fresh.

Bottle at home on my lonesome, from an IP trade at Borefts ’13, 25/06/14. Very lightly hazed golden amber with a well appointed eggshell white head that retains well, carbonation evident. Nose is citric tinged straw, dry rot, dank woody notes, must, rotting apple core, funky dogs collar, dried out back of the cupboard lemon. Taste comprises tangy/tarte white grapes, musty orchard wood, bitter lemon rinds, funky, grandads shed - 3rd draw down the little damp patch, dank citric tinged straw, burnt grass. Medium bodied, fine massageing carbonation, dank orchard rinse in the close. Top draw Gueuze - great balance, great depth of flavour.
