4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 GAManiac (1903) - Atlanta, USA - DEC 4, 2011
750ml bottle.
Pours a hazy golden orange with a big fluffy white head that shows very good lacing.
Aroma is seriously funky, earthy, with lots of wet hay and a light lactic acidity and lots of oak. There is some yeasty spiciness with some pepper notes as well. There is some citrus behind the funk, with some lemons coming out especially.
The taste is spectacular, massively complex and starts with a more pronounced lemon and grapefruit. There is plenty of yeast and cracker in the background with a less arrestingly funky character than the nose. The finish does have plenty of brett as well as some lightly spicy oak.
The mouthfeel is perfect for the style, managing to be smooth and creamy while still feeling almost effervescent with strong carbonation.
This is definitely one of the best sours I’ve ever had. I remember being blown away by Blauw when I first tried it and I would rate this one in the same category. As good as advertised.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 jackl (700) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 24, 2012
Bottle @ S&B. Deep amber color, slightly hazy brown with a small off-white head. The nose is lemon rind and woody notes, some musty cheese and dank basement. The taste is light metallic lemon rind, with some soft oak wood. Some notes of cheesy sock and wet grape leaf. The finish is light and floral. The body’s quite acidic and agressive. Nice, but quite tart indeed. Overall, very good. Glad I got to try this.

Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of yespr. Pours a hazy amber with an off-white head. Subtle and rather sophisticated Brett aroma, not too tart, not too farty. Medium body, a dry and almost crisp tart fruitiness again with subtle Brett. Tart alright but very easy going - almost smooth. 080512

Bottled. An unclear dark amber beer with a yellowish head. The aroma has notes of dusty hops, oranges, vinegar, wood, brettanomyces, and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of wood, wet hay, brettanomyces, caramel, and bread, leading to a dry moldy finish.
