COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Armand’4 Winter Oude Geuze is a blend of 1, 2 and 3 year old Lambic, brewed, aged, blended and bottled by Armand Debelder. This one-time and possibly the last bottling comes in a fancy Asti Spumante Champagne bottle. Armand only used Challenger hops in this brew. He’s in fact the only lambic-brewer to use Challenger hops to make his Geuze. 60 % malted barley, 40 % wheat, aged hops and water. Each season’s geuze has an unique and different blend.

The last in a series of four seasonal geuzes, hopped with Challenger and blended from only 3 Fonteinen lambic. With the gainings of this and the other seasonal geuzes, Debelder tries to fund a new lambic brewery of his own, so never mind the price. Compact, stable head, complex and refined lambic aroma, sour cream, dry sherry, hay, horseblanket, bitter honey, fruity esters; very fruity taste, lively, sparkling like champagne, dry sourness but more ’mellow’ lactic acid than sharp citric acid and therefore a ’malse’ geuze, very well-balanced and very elegant, long complex finish. This is a truly wonderful geuze, among the best I’ve tasted so far, and I had most of them - it is just a pity I didn’t get the chance to compare this with the three other versions, thŕt would have been interesting...

Bottle thanks to Bruce. Pours a cloudy orange with huge frothy off white head that lasts leaving sticky lacing. The aroma is strong funk, rubber, oak. Medium mouthfeel with strong funk, leather, oak, citrus, green apple, very good.

Orange pour, mineral, bitter, bold, light leafy, tartness, high carb, some bitterness at end balanced by bright tartness, as it warms much more tart.

First Armand to crack. Beautiful dark amber with rocky head. Very dark for such a young lambic. Classic 3F funk with more fruits. Aroma is more tame than the regular 3F, very classy. I really like the taste with definite sour cherries along with the funk. Very sour but somewhat sweet reminiscent of cherries. Full bodied but a little drier.

Bottle thanks to Colin, thanks man. Pour is hazy copper with a large white head. Aroma is crazy funky with tart notes and loads of horseback. Hints of something indescribable. Flavor is very funky with district cheese notes, faint salt notes, mineral notes, and lightly earthy. Tons going on here. Awesome.

Pours a deep golden almost amber color with a finger of gaseous bubbles. The nose is layered with complex fruits, dusty wood and some funky barnyard hints. The palate follows and has a round fruit presence underneath that I blanketed as fruit punch but to desimplify; apple, apricot, peach, lemon, pineapple sweet cherry... really delicious with the added nuances of old dusty wood, trace of leather, barnyard hay and the perfect amount of funky acidity ! Absolutely delicious !

UPDATED: JUL 21, 2014 Bottle bought for Bruce’s birthday. Pours bright and vibrant orange with a dense white head leaving superb lacing. Nose is very lemon forward with horse blanket, huge funk and mild biscuit. Big tropical fruit influence and it gives it this appealing juiciness which goes hand in hand with the sourness. Mouth watering. Tastes of big funk and lemon tart with huge sour barnyard notes. Light musk with creamy zest. Odd and works so well. The tropical notes give it such an appealing juiciness throughout. Sour and funk is out of this world good. Age has possibly done this wonders with the extra sourness I assume it would have given. World class sour
