Armand’4 Winter Oude Geuze is a blend of 1, 2 and 3 year old Lambic, brewed, aged, blended and bottled by Armand Debelder. This one-time and possibly the last bottling comes in a fancy Asti Spumante Champagne bottle. Armand only used Challenger hops in this brew. He’s in fact the only lambic-brewer to use Challenger hops to make his Geuze. 60 % malted barley, 40 % wheat, aged hops and water. Each season’s geuze has an unique and different blend.

My Bottom Line:
Earthy wilderness and its piney edges lead to a citric, acidic finish in this complex, yeast-laden Oude Gueuze.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam sits atop the cloudy amber.
-Carbonation is very intense throughout, helping in toning down the intensity of the brew.
-Sourness is high, but not nearly as intense as some Cantillons or Hanssens gueuzes.
-Obviously, this is very dry as well.
-To me, this one seemed more sour than the Herfst and Lente, and perhaps more citrusy/fruity as well.

Bottle. Hazy amber liquid with medium to big white head. Aroma of earth, barnyard, red berries, wood, apple skin and lemon. Taste is dry and light to medium bitter with notes of earth, barnyard, light bread and apple skin. Medium bodied with low to medium carbonation. Really nice, bit maltier.

750 ml. bottle that had developed a small leak. Was still a gusher. Poured a cloudy golden orange with a huge white head. Aroma of citrus, barnyard, and wood. Taste is lemon, grapefruit, apples, funk, malt, wood, and barnyard. Was a mild taste of vinegar. All things considered (leak) it was excellent.

Finally completed this series with this tick of the Winter edition... Bottle poured hazy, amber/golden/orange with a well laced head. An amazing aroma of citrus, funk, earthy spices, and wood. A lot of those aroma notes translated into the flavor too. Mouthfeel was just right, not too dry and attenuation was spot on. Some sour acidic notes, but a great deal of horse-blankey brett notes and funky barnyard characters. Seriously amazing.

Warm golden colour, white head. Aroma of citrus, funk, lemon peel, rubber, bicycle tire. Sour flavour, lactic acid, berries, grapefruit, funk and brett. Sour finish, very fresh, citric acid and funk. Great beer, aging well.

750mL bottle shared by a generous soul during RBWG 2013. This was my least favorite of the four versions. Fizzy golden pour with a nice off-white head. Funk, sour, doughiness, some barnyard and touches of lactic sourness as well. Very nice!
