Armand’4 Winter Oude Geuze is a blend of 1, 2 and 3 year old Lambic, brewed, aged, blended and bottled by Armand Debelder. This one-time and possibly the last bottling comes in a fancy Asti Spumante Champagne bottle. Armand only used Challenger hops in this brew. He’s in fact the only lambic-brewer to use Challenger hops to make his Geuze. 60 % malted barley, 40 % wheat, aged hops and water. Each season’s geuze has an unique and different blend.

Reviewed from notes. Tried side by side with the rest of the Armand’4s in early 2012. Winter pours a cloudy/hazy amber orange in color with a moderate amount of off-white head. The nose on winter differs from the other Armand’4 we’ve had, it is more perfume-like in my opinion. The funkiness is still there, but this is definitely perfumey in nature. The difference from the other Armand’4s continues in the taste. This is sweeter in comparison to the other 3. It is noticeably less acidic, sour and doesn’t have as much funky punch to it as the others either. Mouthfeel is light and creamy, with fizzy carbonation, light acidity, and a long finish. This is definitely the weakest of the 4 Armands. I would be hard pressed to buy this for any reason other than completing the set. In my eyes, this is a sufficient drop off in quality from the other 3.

Bottle shared at the John/Jim tasting. Moldy on the cork which explosively popped out across the room as it came loose. Cloudy amber with an off white head. Aroma of dusty funk, dry cellar, cobwebs, leather, lactic touchs, yoghurt, barnyard, light citrus and tart light fruit. Flavour is light sweet and moderate sour. Medium bodied with light carbonation. Nice, but certainly not up there with some of the better 3 Fonteinen gueuzes

Bottle shared at John almost got killed by a cork tasting, thanks to kermis for sharing. Hazy dark golden, almost copper with big light beige head. Lots of hay, farmyard, dank cellar, especially on the nose. In the taste there’s some lactic and yoghurt notes, dead leaves, some sherry, quite earthy. Under medium sour with light lactic sweetness throughout. Medium bodied with slight sticky feel and champagne-like carbonation. A bit disappointing to be honest.

Bottle, thanks for sharing! Pours a cloudy earthy orange with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma is funk forward with a decent amount of menthol and some dry tart fruits and a bit of oak. Flavor has a nice acid note with a good amount of menthol and some earthy funk and a touch of oak.

Bottle @ The Levi Tasting. Thanks, Levi! Slightly hazy light Amber pour with a small head. Nose is wonderfully expressive. Massive barnyard aroma. Bucolic splendor. Manure, barnyard funk. Light lemon. Flavor is wonderful. Sort tartness. Light pollen. Acid and brett working well together. Lightly sweet. Easy drinking, effervescent carb. Fantastic. This is amazing right now.
