Bottle from Dan - thanks! Let’s start 2012 with a world class gueuze. Bottle was stored for weeks in the fridge prior to opening and there was no gushing. Pours a hazy, light rust orange that looks fiery in direct light. Fluffy white head that leaves a bit of foamy lacing down the sides of the glass. Aroma is dry must up front followed by focused cheese rind, some off-funk odors, lemon, and a clean wheat or grain component. I do not get any bright fruit notes. Taste is sharp cheese rind, tight funk, lemon, some must, perhaps some soft oak, a touch of bitterness, and a very interesting lingering finish of sharp tart, light wheat, and a sharp prick of very dry sour that reminds me of brett although I doubt it is. Mouthfeel is sharp and precise and the lively carbonation is perfect. This is an amazing gueuze but it does not present with the rich fullness of balance both in aroma and taste of the Lente. Thank you again Armand.

Gusher, on the computer. :( Beer served in a Drie Fonteinen glass, a reward for all the housework I did today, thank you me. At the time of this review this beer is the #54 beer on the "Top Beers - Popular", the #2 beer on the "Top Beers - New", the #8 Beer on the "Top Beers - Belgium", and the #2 on the "Top Beers - Gueuze" lists on beeradvocate.com. Sounds like a good one to try for the night cap to me. Beer is orange and really hazy, huge head, that consolidates into large bubbles that break, leaving behind a mildly tan head, one finger, small and medium bubbles, lots of lacing on the glass. Aggressively carbonated. Dinging it for the gusher cause that was a disappointment. The smell is light, airy, with hints of funk, oak, slight metallic and a little, light sulfur / rubber. Smells like a Drie Fonteinen should. Beer is about as light in body and you can get, dry finish, burns a little from the acetic brightness and the heavy carbonation, but it burns so so good. Beer’s finish is uniquely oaky, more so than the lente was (although a side by side is in order right fellas?) with a stronger acidity and a lighter palate throughout. There is almost an alcohol, sulfur mixing in the late midpalate before the dry tartness of the finish gets you. The acid coats my mouth and gums. Great, very dry, very tart, nice sourness, great funk. A near perfect beer. Serving type: bottle

(Bottle) Pours cloudy copper amber with an off-white head. The aroma is super fruity and robust brett funky with notes of lemon, grapefruit, dry pineapple, dry apricot, frozen strawberries, rose hip soup, canned fruits, apples, dirty horse blanket, wet barnyard, wet basement, well integrated cheesiness, light vinegar, cracker-like malt/wheat and light wood. “Green” hints of herbs (mint and salvia) and grass. The flavor is dry and medium (perfect) acidic. Cracker-like, citric, funky, mineral and fruity. The mouthfeel is tart and tight with soft, near medium carbonation. Lingering citric, cracker-like and light bretty finish. Near medium bodied. Super complex nose and well balanced (Orval-like) flavor. Fantastic.

Shared bottle @RBNAG-11. Hazed deep golden, topped by a low coarse white head. Funky fruit aroma with floral and grassy notes. Taste has a rounded fruitiness, yet quite acidic and bretty. Some wooden notes and hints of residal sugars. Dry fruity, light astringent ending.

Bottle. Pours dark orange with a big white head. Beautiful! The aroma has got lots of fresh sour green apples and freshly cut grass notes. Not at all dusty. Young and fresh taste. Apples. A bit dry. Some cellar notes in the aftertaste. Overall: Maybe a little too fresh at this time. But I bet this will turn out to be a world class gueuze after a couple of years in the cellar.

Bottle. Rating #2500. Opens with a gusher. Deep orange-amber color with a huge fluffy off-white head. Wonderful fresh aroma of oranges, lemons, grapefruits and barnyard. Great sour flavor with lots of fruits, some oak, leathery notes, touches of sweetness and an astringent bone-dry finish, more sour with bitter notes. Silky rounded mouthfeel. Delicious and quaffable. This is art.
