4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 3fourths (7063) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JUL 17, 2011UPDATED: APR 5, 2013 comments are for first bottle opened alongside lente. second tasting alongside herfst was a rich experience, as always the case with 3 fonteinen, but it didn’t have the same burst of peach rind fuzz and all that. i’d imagine every bottles tastes different given the ester and acid release from pouring and glassware chosen. that said: glowing dense sparkling amber copper with a inexplicably supported white satin thick cream of a head. first dance with the nose is spiced cedar phenols and citrus esters, developing into the most intoxicating combinations of smells ever experienced in a beer: fuzzy, musty just-ripe peach rind fruitiness; light lactic fatty acids; a touch of butyric cognac with oak; it feels like tree bark, wildflowers and berry bushes in the wilderness. it smells like the earth, and it’s textured, alive and playful. it develops late into a more waxy and oily honey-tinged semi-sweet malt and wheat base, with doughy, full, rounded yeast. the sparkling and zesty acid and superb natural carbonation have produced playful wood / bark / berry / peach esters and acids, even some faint waxy sweet pickle notes when warmer. yeah, pickles. then throw in some some chalk / calcite / drywall rounds. Zomer is an unconventional geuze but with an ester and acid profile that may be unmatched. it’s one of the best I’ve ever had.

Killed it! This is probably my favorite gueuze ever. Best of the 4 in my opinion. Amazing peppery lemon flavor with a heavy tartness that is welcomed. The nose is more of the same funky musty elements with some lemon and a great black pepper quality. I could drink gallons of this nectar. LOVE IT.

Bottle @ a recent tasting... Poured golden with a thin head. Aroma of skunked fermented gym socks (in a good way). Tasted awesome, bright citrus notes lent to a funky, yeast spiced, bretty, musky, horseblanket machine of a Gueuze. Some acid with the citrus in there too.

Taste comprises lemon rind, straw, woody tones, sour fuirt, farmy, barny, funky sours.
Medium bodied, fine light spritz, super dry finish as arid as the place in Star Wars where the Jawa’s and Sand people live!
Yeah - this is the bollocks!

Pours a rich copper color with a couple finger of gaseous suds that settles out. On the nose it’s dusty funk, bright citrus , lemon acidity... the palate follows with a tremendous balance between dusty musty basement funk and ripe stone fruit, lemon acidity and lots of earthy leather... Amazing complexity!

Bottle supplied by myself. The pour’s deep hazy orange with a medium pillowy white head. Nice brett through the nose. Old cobweb-covered wood. A bit of marshmallow. Light white grape. Slightly brash. Notes of granny smith apple. The taste has similarly musty flavors. Like eating an attic. Rich brett with bright shocks of tart lemon. Key lime pie. Such expressive wild yeast. Nice floral finish. Mild creamy sweetness. Light body. Wonderful vitality. Moderate carbonation. Overall, fantastic.

Bottled.
Amber color with rich frothy foam. Dry woody nose with hints of oak, grapefruit, smokey phenols and brett. Flavour is dry woody and grapefruity, with notes of goat cheese, smokey phenols, ripe green apple and oak. Good acidity here. Musty mouthfeel. Almost puckering mouthfeel due to the tannins and dryness. Really complex.

Sampled at the CCB/RateBeer/Pre-Hunah Tasting (Tampa, FL). Pours a well hazed amber hue, darker haziness, frothy tannish head dies to a good film, laces ok. Aromas are lemony, bready, straw and lemon. Crab apple, lactic elements. Some bready malts, a touch deadened. Some straw. Gentle oak. Initial is a touch sweeter, well balanced, with oak, bready, straw, good lemon and yogurt. Gentle rind. Middle is a touch sweet, straw, yogurt, and oak. Nice sourness sustains, bretty backend and oak, straw. Touches of flavorful fruit, straw, florals. A bit more muted. A tasty Gueuze, solid all around. A touch behind Lente. Nice fruit. Tasty.
