Cornfield (4892), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Sep 22, 2008 I picked up a 12.7 oz bottle of this at the Sam-apostrophe-s in Downers Grove, IL. It poured a golden amber body, clear and headless as advertized. The aroma was wet hay, a bleu cheese, some watered pink grapefruit juice, and potting soil. The flavor had more acidity than the nose suggested and a taste of vinegar was added along with some green grape skins. The finish was sour and dry but not overpowering. Nice. NobleSquirrel (1100), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 21, 2008 Bottle from West Lakeview. Beer pours muddy orangey gold. No head, no carbonation, which I think hurts this one. Nose is a bit cheesy and barnyard, earthy and sour like vomit, but in a good way. Taste is much the same, a bit one dimensional, pretty sour, though nothing amazing. Okay. fredandboboflo (1395), East Setauket, New York, USA Sep 20, 2008 Bottle. Aroma very funky, limited barnyard, more cheese, some earth, oak, and some sweet-tart fruity notes. Flavor mildly acidic, sweetly oaky, tart on the finish, citrusy notes grow with the temperature. Started off sort of average, but very much grew on me. Stellar stuff. LilBeerDoctor (1480), East Setauket, New York, USA Sep 20, 2008 375 mL bottle, bottled 2/23/06. Pours a light orange with no head. Aroma of a lot of funk and general fruity tartness. Flavor of light vinegar notes, slight tartness. Stars off light and easy to drink but it gets a bit wearing by mid glass. Fairly acidic but overall pretty good. dpjuart (670), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 15, 2008 9/9/08 - Max’s on Broadway, Baltimore, MD. 350 ml bottle. Pours yellow with no head. Nose is surgar, apple, vinegar with some musty cheese notes. Tastes is sharp apple with a rather salty malt character, slight vinegar taste with notes of gooseberry and wine grape. A touch of lemony citrus/sour lingering. Fantastic. AgentSteve (1334), SF Bay Area, California, USA Sep 13, 2008 Pours hazy golden with a touch of orange. Completely flat with no carbonation or head. The nose is quite cheese like with a touch of musty blanket. The flavor was a bit like the nose but added grapefruit and other citrus influences. Smooth and light on the palate. JCB (1716), Durham, North Carolina, USA Sep 10, 2008 375ml from tytoanderso - thanks, dude!! Lovely clear amber pour, still and serene with a few bubbles. Extremely appetizing aroma, dry white wine and lemon rind, with a bit of hay. Mouthfeel is pleasant, slightly fuller than one might expect from the style. The oak really comes through in the flavor, without being overpowering. Slight hint of red grapefruit amongst the traditional gueuze flavors. Exquisitely lengthy, dry finish. Very nice one. hombrepalo (748), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 9, 2008 Bottle, my first Gueuze. Somewhat reminded me of a Sour Ale (RR - Beatification) with less carbonation. Pours a hazy orange with no head. Smells slightly flowery. Light sweetness with a moderate sourness and a light bitterness. Lots of grapefruit and a little resin. Medium bodied. Soft carbonation. Sour finish. Interesting brew, unique and takes some getting used to...
