jredmond (1015), New Jersey, USA Jun 5, 2008 Updated: Sep 13, 2009Bottle. Thought this one was opened already or something, but reading the rest of the reviews I guess not. It pours a hazy orange, no head, no lacing. Aroma is nice, notes of vinegar. Taste is really sour, salty, and thin. 17thfloor (1403), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 5, 2008 Ha! weak little "pop" when opened! Pours cloudy dark golden with a very thin fine white ring on top. Sweet and tangy aroma, dusty and stingy. Wheres the carbonation? Completely flat. Very sweet metallic up front taste, sour and tart. Delicious! A bit of grapes and apples. Acidic finish. Well balanced, but need some life! wake up damn you! robinvboyer (1419), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Jun 4, 2008 Murky, hazy, dark oranage color. Smells like a lambic, super sour, wet straw, and citrus. This is easily the sourest lambic i have ever hand, hands down. mouth puckeringly sour, just amazing!! It leaves you licking the inside of your much for more of the citrus, sour goodness, i loved it! beastiefan2k (1590), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas, USA Jun 4, 2008 From miketd. So this is a weird lambic, as if its just too young. Is this like a Leorik before tis carbonated? Barely get that damn large cork out from a bottle with no gas. A still pour, no head and a thick orange color, medium clarity, cannot see through the beer. Aroma is strong signature 3F rubber with something I have not gotten before in 3F, almost like barnyard-bark-gelatin and plenty of brett. Taste is very light marmalade vinegar with lots of earthiness and light musk. there is even a bit of sweetness here which I would think will eventually get eaten up and carbonate this beer. Lightly drying for a lambic with no acidity and not even very sour. I don’t know, I guess I would prefer this to be carbonated but still obviously good. 375mL bottle, dated 17/2/2006, Rodenbach Alexander snifter. Nuffield (2718), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Jun 4, 2008 Strong yellow color. Low carbonation in body, very tart but not sour. Acidic, yet somewhat clean and refreshing. Bud-light + musty aroma. Somewhat thick palate, but not sugary. Then just lots of good ol’ gueuzeyness. Fine but not great. Finale relativement amère. tytoanderso (1382), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA May 30, 2008 375 bottle. Horsey, tart and zesty on the nose. Plenty of barnyard and dirt with some tart lemon zest undercurrents. Malted apple vinegar as well. Pours a still dark copper. Nearly lifeless looking. Flavor is quite nice. Not nearly as acidic and a complex as I had hoped but nice nonetheless. Dirty, earthy with hints of aged cheddar and carrot soup (?). A decent wood presence announces itself as the beer opens. Slightly rubbery with essences of band aid as well. Slick and oily on the tongue with a fairly acidic and dirty finish. Unique and fulfilling. MartinT (5030), Montreal, Quebec, Canada May 30, 2008 My Bottom Line:
A farmy lambic nose announces its colours before lemony fruitiness and wild yeast lead to a long, puckering sourness. This Gueuze is not the usually wondrous blend I expect from Drie Fonteinen, but it’s sure to please the lambic lover in you anyway.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-Headless, the cloudy orange blond looks like a glass of grapefruit juice.
-The body is rather slender, an impression enhanced by the low carbonation.
-A more active carbonation might have made this more enjoyable a lambic; as is, it is all you expect from the style, but it’s not as drinkable as the regular DF Gueuze.
-Even though the flavor profile is off-the-wall (like most lambics), this one did appear more linear than usual.
