3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Rune (4922) - Tromsø, NORWAY - FEB 17, 2012
750ml bottle bought at Vinmonopolet Vika in Oslo. The dark-green bottle is topped by a wire cradle and a cork. Low, filmy layer on top of a hazy, apricot-coloured body. Dry aroma of overripe fruits alongside the smell of farmyard. Mild and rounded fruity tartness in flavour that lingers throughout the drink on a cellar-like backbone. Woody dry and smooth on the swallow. Medium bodied. Unusual and nice, I would say (shared at a drinking session in Tromsø, 15.02.2012).
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 sonnycheeba (812) - Fells Point, Baltimore, Maryland, USA - FEB 17, 2012
UPDATED: MAR 31, 2012 Bottle. Pours hazy gold with average, fizzy white; average retention and spare lacing. Aroma is yeast, funk, sour fruit, and grassy notes. Flavor is average malt, faint hops, and heavy sour esters; dry, slightly sour finish. Medium body, carbonation, and warmth.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 orangesol (320) - Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 13, 2012
Thanks to the Holland’s for bringing this one to our gueuze tasting. A 375ml bottle from ’06.
A - Pours cloudy orange with a small half finger tall white head, dissipating down to a thin film, leaving very little lace down the glass.
S - Smells of deep barnyard funk, lemon peel, sour apples and some dry oak tannins. Not as in your face as most of the other gueuze’s we opened on the day.
T - Starts off with a bit of acidic sourness quickly giving way to hints of musty basement funk, lemon zest, sour granny smith apples and some dry oak tannins. Finish is pretty dry but the thin feel washes most of it away, only lingering on the pallet for a few seconds.
M - Medium body and flavor with moderately low carbonation. Funky, slightly thin feel that doesn’t stick around for very long.
O - I enjoyed this one a bit more than my rating would indicate. I really think the lack of even the smallest bit of carbonation really brought this one down a notch. I look forward to giving this one another go in the future.

2006 bottle, thanks to secretsanta, orange to golden pour with sour dry white wine aromas, flavors of white wine, dusty funk, bitter, chalky pepper
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Strykzone (3132) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - JAN 28, 2012
Hazy kind of golden. Not really any head. A finky fruity nose. The flavor is the same. Not my style at all and a little is enough.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 dcschiller (1665) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - JAN 22, 2012
(750ml bottle from 7.2006). Pours a clear golden-orange color with a white head and lots of carbonation. Aroma is funky, light vinegar, vinous notes and some citrus. Taste is sour with some underlying sweetness. Gets quite bitter with some time (like citrus pith). Medium bodied with a dry finish. Good, but not great. I would not search this out for the price.
4.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 magdalar (475) - Zurich, SWITZERLAND - JAN 21, 2012
Bottle, courtesy of Nino from Sherwood. Pours orange with a white head. Smells faintly of a basement, and some yeast, but not a while lot. Tastes fruity, slightly sour, but very smooth. Quite phenomenal, if "unsophisticated". I’d take this lack of sophistication any day ;-)
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 DavoleBomb (1104) - Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 20, 2012
Poured into a tulip. 2010 vintage.
3.5 A: I like a yeasty gueuze, so that’s what I got. Translucent peach color. Two fingers of frothy white head. Retention is about average and without much lacing left.
4.0 S: Lots of apples. Green apples, red apples, yellow apples, and crab apples. Underneath there are notes of white wine, hay, barnyard, and the forest in autumn. Not much in terms of sourness save for some green apple tartness.
3.5 T: For the most part, this follows the nose. Apple overload with emphasis on tart green apple. Peach, dank wet hay, and rotting log with some barnyard notes. Good flavor, but at this point it could use some more depth and perhaps some strength as well.
4.0 M: Light body. Active, spritzy carbonation. Could use some creaminess, but otherwise smooth.
3.5 D: Tasty beer, but I think it needs more power. Of course, this is a fairly "young" gueuze, so we shall see what the cellar does to this.
