3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
375mL bottle, Feb 23 2006, drunk from a Duvel snifter on Bastille Day 2008.
A surprisingly dark color for a gueuze, with deep orange and tangerine shades playing about a strong copper background. Sparse bubbles appear on the very edges and the clarity is medium-high, leaving the sediment behind, as always.
Heavily lactic in the nose, with light mushroom suggestions and less tartness/sourness than I would expect. I must admit to reading David’s review before trying this and some residual sugars, that he mentions, certainly seem to be prominent in the nose, for a gueuze. They somewhat dull the resulting phenol bouquet, but I’m still hopeful for the flavor....
Hmmmm, very sweet for a real lambic, and without as much of the dry, oily woodiness that is presented in the Grand Bruocsella. Not to say it dosen’t taste mostly proper for a flat lambic, but there is a quick transition from sweet malts to a watery, overly loose finish. No flaws though, I don’t even get any obnoxious rubber or sulfur. Could just be my tolerance to it though. You want to score this one high, but it just dosen’t seem to be nearly as complex as, say, a 2001 oude gueuze or any Cantillon Gueuzes. More sourness please.
Will compare this side-by-side to a Loerik after a few more years. Loerik has the last word on lazy gueuzes, at this point.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Thanks to errl for sharing this bottle. 2006 vintage. Orange pour with a very a few bubbles but no head. The aroma is awesome and I almost don’t want to drink the beer - I just want to smell it. I get some great funk and brett notes as well as some orange citrus. The flavor has some great oak and leather notes as well as the classic 3 Fonteinen funk. Incredibly complex and interesting. Medium mouthfeel and no carbonation.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle @ tasting, 2006 vintage. This vintage really seems to find it’s way around here and popping up everywhere.. Pours a clear orange beer without any head. Aroma is oak, sherry and very vineous. Big fruity base with some age on it. Flavor is light sour, age took off the edges from this one, oaky and bretty. Really refreshing after some massive barrel aged imperial stouts. Very nice, balanced brew. Good stuff.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle courtesy of MrHangover. Poured a cloudy dark amber with a round white head. The aroma is smooth acid vinegar citrus. The flavour is medium sour with a big vinegar palate. Light bodied with flat carbonation. A nice beer to taste and fine in small quantities, but the vinegar starts to dominate eventually and i’m not a big vinegar fan.
