3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
375mL bottle, Feb 23 2006, drunk from a Duvel snifter on Bastille Day 2008.
A surprisingly dark color for a gueuze, with deep orange and tangerine shades playing about a strong copper background. Sparse bubbles appear on the very edges and the clarity is medium-high, leaving the sediment behind, as always.
Heavily lactic in the nose, with light mushroom suggestions and less tartness/sourness than I would expect. I must admit to reading David’s review before trying this and some residual sugars, that he mentions, certainly seem to be prominent in the nose, for a gueuze. They somewhat dull the resulting phenol bouquet, but I’m still hopeful for the flavor....
Hmmmm, very sweet for a real lambic, and without as much of the dry, oily woodiness that is presented in the Grand Bruocsella. Not to say it dosen’t taste mostly proper for a flat lambic, but there is a quick transition from sweet malts to a watery, overly loose finish. No flaws though, I don’t even get any obnoxious rubber or sulfur. Could just be my tolerance to it though. You want to score this one high, but it just dosen’t seem to be nearly as complex as, say, a 2001 oude gueuze or any Cantillon Gueuzes. More sourness please.
Will compare this side-by-side to a Loerik after a few more years. Loerik has the last word on lazy gueuzes, at this point.

750 mL bottle. Bottled 12/7/2006. Originally reviewed 4/6/2013.
Orange body. Clear without much head. Thin collar.
Smell is standard Drie Fonteinen funk. Bright lemon acidity. Barnyard funk. Nice.
Taste is a bright lemony sour flavor. Funky, but not as much as standard 3F. Lots of pale malt and wheat.
Low carbonation, slick and not overly sour. Slightly sweet.
Nothing compared to Oude Geuze, but a great lambic.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared at home. Slight hazy dark golden without any head. Apple, apricot, peach, pineapple, overripe mango, quite some funk, light lactic notes, sherry, light wood and vanilla, light leaves and berry pits. Light sweet and very light bitter and sourness. Medium bodied with no carbonation. Very interesting stuff, way more sweet and fruity than the regular gueuze.

Pours dark straw color. No carbonation. Some prickly mouthfeel from seemed still beer. Definitely to style. Aroma of tart grape skins and oak. Smells like bar wood and cellar winery. Flavor is subtle oak and big tartness. Finishes very dry and brandy wine like. Very nice.

Bottle from fonefan - my Summer Santa. The lambic has got a hazy golden-strawy colour with a flat body and no head. Aroma of mild vinegar, mild acid, straw. Taste of mild acid, mild unripe berries, oak, mild vinegar. Sourness is well-balanced. Enjoyed it.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Rated from beer log from 2009 Belgian Trip.... Aroma is funky like a gueuze, barnyard... Orange cloudy in color... Flavor is more tart than a gueuze, more like a lambic in that respect, but still with a slight funkiness in the taste... Finish on the palate is gently tart, not extremely intense... Enjoyable

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
2010 375ml bottle from Kamiel. Clear golden with a white layer of head. That first whiff reminds me why I love 3F so much and should by more of anything they make that I can get my hands on. Such a balanced and nuanced combination of farmhouse funk, balanced tartness, mild sourness, light lemon zest, hay, fairly dry with a touch of acidity on the finish, light funk and more barnyard. Doesn’t overwhelm in any particular direction or flavour but tasty, refreshing and enjoyable in all the right ways. Lovely.

6% a reddish Amber our with a minimal head served in a teku glass at Luppolo 12. A nose of rich plum, wine, thick stone fruit malts really nice. The taste just knocks it out of the park! Tart fruity sour, a bit of woddsy barrel character on a light silky body.
