4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
75cl bottle from 2006. Hazy golden peach flesh colored pour with some small bubbles. Aroma is very sweet. Ripe orange, tangerine and pineapple is prominent in this very fruity lambic. Musty oak, brett notes and barnyard, a surprising vanilla element. Huge horseblanket and funkiness .Grapefruit. Very funky all over, but the lovely fruitiness is most prominent. Taste is similar, though a lot more brett-forward and leathery, a grape-like dry bitterness from the brett in the far back of the mouth. It is tart, but balanced by a good sweetness, and it comes off lighter in tartness than many other geuzes. Very light in carbonation, smooth texture, very nice mouthfeel. Thicker texture than other geuzes, a bit oily. I lile this one a lot.

’Doesjel’ is a local dialect describing someone lazy or sleepy and this is what happened here: sometimes the (re-)fermentation of a traditional geuze evolves too slowly, as if the fermenting agents have fallen asleep or are just being lazy. The result is a ’luierik’, a lazy, ’underachieving’ geuze. This one has a very loose, thin, open, milky and rapidly dissolving head as a result of that, warm and deep orange blonde colour, light mistiness when the deposit is added; sparkling remains very limited, again as a result of the sauntering fermentation. Rich and complex nose of ’malse’ old lambic, elegant impressions of hay, lemon peel, sulphur, horseblanket, dry sherry, everything blended well together. Fresh lemony citric acid, wheaty, hay, soft and smooth mouthfeel, very complex with a very long, dry and sour finish, low carbonation as expected. Lazy fermentation or not, this product proves Debelder’s genius in blending lambics and has all the complexity and funkiness one can expect from a 100% lambic. Delightful.

Pours a clear orange color...no head. Aroma has musty tropical fruit, funk, and mild cheese...nice funky tartness. Flavor is leathery and musty with nice tart rindy/citrus notes...Light stinky cheese...so Damn good. Mouthfeel is light and the finish is dry and tart with funk, leather and musty hop notes peeking through. Glorious.

Very interesting. Almost mango...not as lemon sour as most gueuze I have had, and I have had many. But that is not to say it was not good. It was very enjoyable. Thicker palate than most dryer gueuze but still very good. I real like thus one and it is readily available.

Sourish aroma, wood, natural, apple, orange.
Pours orange, no head, no sparkling, a bit like soda.
Nicely sour, apple, wood, grapes, lemon.
No carbo, light bitter, waterish. But lovely sourness.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
375 ml bottle to snifter (shared with the Mrs; BIG thanks to Dogbones for this one!). Bottled on Feb. 23, 2006. Looks decent; no real carbonation though. A cloudy robust orange. Smells good; funky and cheesy. Tastes like it smells, but less robust due to lack of carbonation. Gotta give this a 2 on the palate because I get no carbonation whatsoever (and I like carbonation in my lambics). Worth trying as long as you don’t have to give up the farm to get it. I can imagine this would be a 4.0 or higher for me if properly carbonated.

Hay and sour apples on the nose. Beautiful golden liquid and a quickly dissipating ivory head. Granny Smith apple on the first taste barnyard and white wine, or white grapes. Dry and delicious. Great beer
