750mL bottled January 2003, drunk 3/26/16. Thanks to JTClockwork!
Soft, light cherry-pink body has a golden hue to it and is topped by a small, but fairly dense, off-white head with moderate-to-strong retention. Good clarity, of course.
Musty, heavy cellar-like qualities in the nose, with a definite grape-like fruitiness, soft vanilla, wet hay and easygoing horseblanket. Good intensity of aroma, even at 13 years old. No alcohol or flaws.
In the flavor, it’s fruity, moderately acidic and full of bright grape and horseblanket. Perhaps a touch of green apple, with a high level of dryness, of course, and no alcohol or flaw. Still has tight carbonation and the alcohol has no doubt helped preserve it, but I just can’t get that in to grape lambics. Despite having had plenty of vigneronne as well as St. Lamvinus and Reed Gueuze Pinot Noir, I find the grapes kind of clash with the acids from the bacteria and yeast, rather than complement them as with cherry and apricot. Interesting one, but probably more of a novelty at this point. Hopefully this will get rebrewed soon as I’d much rather try it fresh.
