omhper (10728), Stockholm, Sweden May 12, 2004 Updated: May 14, 2004 Bottled (labelled Drie Fonteinen Druiven Geuze). Hazy amber. Fruity citric nose. Acidic and full bodied, lively and fresh. The grape character is subdued, leaving the field open for more regular gueuze flavours, but still adds soem fruitiness and bitterness from the grape shells. Intricate and complex, but doesn’t take me to the same levels as their schaaarbeekse kriek.
anders37 (2738), Malmö, Sweden Jul 3, 2007 Bottle @ Akkurat, Stockholm. Pours a hazy orange color with a small white head. Has a fruity tart and slightly malty aroma with some hints of grapes. Sweet malty tart flavor with some woody hints and hints of grapes. Sweetish but tart fruity finish with hints of those grapes. Rastacouere (5355), Montréal, Quebec, Canada May 30, 2007 Akkurat, vintage 2000. Classiest old bottle (said that a few times recently). The drink is opaque, pale golden with an initially large, uniform white head that diminishes to a firm cover. The most appealing nose takes some time getting used to. The Malvasia grape varietal, which I’m not very familiar with having never had any wine made from it, comes out rather funky, almost mineral with peppery Alsace-like overtones and exotic tropical fruits, pineapple being upfront. Boastful tart intricacies in the shapes of a fruit basket basically. Besides, the usual drie fonteinen glorious citrus extraction is part of the meetup where fine, clean white grapefruit and lemon notes mingle along the wheat to ensure perfect drinkability. Perfect classic Drie Fonteinen mouthfeel comprising the most refined texture and fitting, still active carbonation. Underated if anything, this is a masterpiece of restricted, integrated, beautiful flavors, almost subtle for a lambic. Never agressive, sure of itself, quite dry, quite tart yet certainly never overly so an remaining quite accessible for outsiders I would assume. Classy diplomacy and age resistance all the way. radiomgb (1776), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Jul 28, 2006 750ml bottle labelled Drie Fonteinen Druiven Geuze at the Akkurat in Stockholm, Sweden. Hazy golden-amber in colour, medium sized white head, some lacing. The aroma is quite tart and sour, green apple skins and red grapes, light citrus. The flavour is tart and sour upfront, after that the citrus (lemons, oranges peel) comes in, peaches, grapes and apples. Moderate acidic mouthfeel, medium body, medium/high carbonation. Finishes lightly acidic, long, very dry at the very end. Fantastic stuff. Very refreshing and sour, excellent balance, this is great stuff. oh6gdx (6332), Vaasa, Finland Oct 4, 2005 Bottled (vintage 2000). Hazy peach colour, big foamy head. Spices and sour apple in aroma. Sour apple, grapes and spices in flavour. Very dry finish. Extremely pleasant. Wellbalanced. TBone (5115), Pori, Finland Oct 3, 2005 Bottled, vintage 2000
Hazy peach colour, not much head. Sour, lambic nose. Very carbonated, fruity, you really can taste grapes here. Sour, fruity aftertaste. Balanced, fruity lambic.
