750ml bottle dated May 25, 1999. holy crap another unattainable beer today. brought to us by the extremely generous jeppe...... pours an extremely cloudy and murky apple cider brown with a thin wispy off-white head.... to be succinct and to the point, the nose was incredibly funky with soft raspberry notes, a little cheese, and vinegary....flavorwise is where this lambic takes off. funky and intese raspberries play off each other in perfect harmony. sublime mouthfeel with just the right amount of liveliness. an extreme explosion and awesome amalgamation of great flavors. i can’t say enough about this.

Consumed at LCBS 2010 with great ratebeerians and members of BA Big thanks to henrik for letting me have the pleasure of prying this from his hands. A: Pours a nice reddish pink with a thin white head. Lite on the retention and a few spots of lace. S: Subtle yet wonderful aromas. Tart berry and oak. Hints of vinegar as well. T: Tart raspberry and hints of mulberry. Mild oak with a nice lactic quality. Sour without being too much, a mild vinegar note. No oxidation at all. M: Nice and crisp, perfect carbonation, with a nice tartness from the middle through the finish. Those who say this one is past its prime are wrong.

Bottle shared in NH. Pours rich purple with a creamy, light pink head. Heavy tart raspberry nose. Flavor is well and tart, with deep raspberry, faint funk, light dryness, hints of wood and grass, a few earthy touches. Light to medium in body with fine carbonation. Good, biting sour finish, a bit of funk, rich raspberry notes. Superb, delicious beer. Extremely refreshing.

2011 vinatge at the Sour & Bitter tasting. Aroma is full of fruit, and the taste does not disappoint. Very ripe and strong flavour.

2/23/13. 750mL bottle thanks to GT2 during RBWG! Nice red pour with a frothy pink head. Really awesome tart aroma with raspberry, fruitness, acidity, and maybe a touch of wood. Tart but balanced flavor with plenty of raspberry, sour, and a hint of wood to balance it out. This stuff was awesome and also my wife’s favorite of the entire weekend.

75cl bottle, courtesy of a Belgian friend. Vintage 2011. It pours a clear ruby colour with a large off-white head. Aroma is stunning: tons of raspberries and horseblanket. Lightly sweet, quite acidic flavor, becomes moderately sour. Taste is really complex and fruity, but not sweet at all. Really sour, but still balanced thanks to the fruity presence. Acidic, pretty dry finish. Medium body, lively carbonation. World class, awsome. But if I had to say this is head and shoulders above other great Framboises (read Lou Pepe), I couldn’t say that probably.

Bottle at S&B - thanks Morten. Pours hazy deep red/ purple with a small bubbly light pink head. Aroma is bursting with pure delicious raspberries - just like good artisinal danish raspberry jam. Soooo well integrated. Then the bugs come to life - heavy brett and barnyard, sharp wood and leather quality. Cobwebs, just loads if aged snd well developed brett. So nice. Wow, as soon as you taste it, you realize how well blended this is. It hits a perfect balance between the authentic sweet and slightly sour rasperry taste and the tartness from the gueuze. Highly complex brett and barrel profile with leather, barnyard, citrus and oak dryness. The raspberries are amazing, you can almost taste the seeds. Way above any other fruit lambic I've had.

2011 Bottle, at javit’s house, and I have to admit I really didn’t want to score it this high, and if anyone wants to come by and egg my house and punch my dog because I’m "tasting the Rare" I’ll understand. That said, the raspberries.... Oh God, the raspberries. First off, HUGE thanks to adam for splitting a whole bottle with me, it was a hell of a night! Sampled from 3 different glasses, each of which brought out different aspects of the beer: A Drie Fonteinen tumbler, a Cantillon tumbler, and a small Cantillon Zwanze 2011 glass. Pours a hazy/cloudy deep electric pink/red, with a purple hue. Head is pale pink, very thin, but very persistent. Aroma is remarkable - From the Cantillon tumbler, it is pulpy raspberries, very fresh and bright, something dusty or polleny here too, no green notes, only light dusty acid, and pulpy raspberries. From the Drie Fonteinen tumbler, the raspberries take off, this is the 10 on aroma glass - this is the whole raspberry - skin, seeds, juice, flesh, and stem - this is the most incredible raspberry aroma I’ve ever found in a beer. The depth of fruit is simply astounding. From the Zwanze glass, this shows a completely different aspect; here is the barnyard, with mushroom, musty straw, big moist earth, leather, and the berries are actually subdued, which is remarkable to me. Something here in the Zwanze nose that reminds me of fresh, new, paper. Flavours of bright zesty raspberry, nice acid, bright fruit, not aggressively sour, rather the sourness provides an unobtrusive counterpoint to the fruit, which is interesting. God are the raspberry notes are fantastic. This beer gets noticeably more sour on the second glass, which was from near the bottom of the bottle. God how I wish I wasn’t contributing to the hype, but this is just ludicrously good.

Poured from a 750 mL caged and corked bottle into a tulip. 2011 vintage. From notes. Moderately bright, the raspberry brown color has a wispy, off-white cap. This is not heavily carbonated. The nose is full of juicy ripe raspberries, with a very sour aroma overall. The fruit is just explosive; it smells mostly lactic in nature, and there is not much funk in the nose, probably due to the young age of the beer. With the first sip my tongue is greeted with the soft, sweetness of ripe summer raspberries. With each passing millisecond, though, the flavor becomes more and more sour, peaking right at the end of the sip. The fruit clearly dominates the flavor, ahead of the funky lambic notes. The sour notes are mostly lactic tartness, although there is some acetic vinegar to it as well. The early sweetness creates a slightly fuller than medium body, but the light bubbly carbonation and the sour acidity as the sip progresses drag the body to the middle of the spectrum in terms of lambics. The lactic acidity and light tannins create a dry sensation as well. This is simply an incredible raspberry sour, which I have soft spot for anyway. With more time in the bottle, I am sure some of the fruit will give way to more of the trademark Drie Fonteinen funk. It will be tough for it to improve on how much I like it now, but it should mellow out for sure.
