UPDATED: SEP 6, 2012 Brought this to our mini Sunday whale tasting. Sampled side by side with the newest vintage of Framboos. Pours a murky purple, brownish red with little head formation on the pours. It’s rather "dirty" looking in comparison to Framboos. Nose is surprisingly full of raspberry still, some very light vinegar, and slightly phenolic. Raspberries are prominent in the flavor as well, with a little bit of plastic peaking through as well. There is less funk than usual 3F of this vintage, but I am actually ok with it considering how much fruit is still showing. Moderate mouthfeel, heavy acidity, light carbonation, and a long finish. I think a lot of the slack this beer gets is unwarranted. It holds up very well to Framboos and despite having some plastic character to it, it doesn’t detract much from the beer. It’s an incredibly good lambic and one I look forward to having again.

75cl, retired exclusive brew, with raspberries and sour cherries, thx alot to JorisPPattyn!, very complex sour fruit brew, sour/fruity and slightly woody, very balanced, cloudy, small head, very good brew!, ’This (still fruity) sample aged very well!’

750mL bottle at Grote Dorst, pours a cloudy ruby red with a pink tint and small pink-tinted beige head. Aroma of faded raspberries, some barnyard funk, and some dusty notes. Flavour is similar, bringing out potent notes of raspberries upfront, followed by barnyard funk, and some dustiness. I would’ve loved to try this fresh to have a point of comparison, as the raspberries are a little faded. Nevertheless, this is very complex, especially towards the end of the glass when the yeast kicks in more. Faded fruitiness and funky finish. Delicious stuff, but no where near 3 Fonteinen Framboos, which I can’t help but use as a point of comparison.

Darkened orange. Aroma of over-ripe berries, hints of paintthinner, barnyard/dried hay and some woody notes. Taste is acidic, cellary, loads of berries and fruityness and bone-dry.

Bottle shared with Bruce at DHVL, 22/03/13. Hazed crimson with a thin off pink head that retains well. Nose is tarte cherries, vinous raspeberry, light fruit balsamics, wood, musty, grandads shed (refurbished!). Taste comprises a ton of berry fruit goodness for a 7 year old lambic, rich raspberries backed up by cherries, sugars, balsams. Medium bodied with spritzy carbonation, dry and rich fruit veins in the finish. Top bollocks !

Bottle shared amongst BA’s for one of the most ridiculous "lunch’s" at the Torst opening! Poured side by side by side with 2012 Blabaer and 2005 Fou foun. Bottle poured a deep cherry red. Nose was straight up raspberry jam. A delicate balance between cheese funk, sweetness from the raspberry and tartness. By far the most complex out of the three bottles we had. Although well balanced flavors, all of the flavors were explosive.

Had at the Grote Dorst. Pours hazy red with some brownish tints and a small pink head. The nose is big raspberry, some brown sugar, some vinegar and lemons with funk and leather. The taste is sweet with a balanced sour which eventually takes over. Finally! The mouthfeel is great and not overcarbonated unlike most of what I have had from 3 Font. It’s crisp and clean, body is light and the finish is long. What a beer,

Poured from a 750 ml bottle, thanks to the Boise crew. Huge raspberry, lots of fruit puree-raspberry seeds, citrus, dusty. This is an amazing beer.

Bottle at Surt med Chris Anker. Pours mostly clear red with a small creamy pink head. The aroma is loaded with raspberries and other ripe berries like blackcurrant. Acidic notes in the background. The flavour is tart and has notes of grapefruit, cherry and loads of raspberries. Fruity and tart berries in the finish. Only slight notes of barnyard and horse blanket. Great!

Poured from a 750 mL bottle into a tulip. Tasted side by side with 2011 Framboos Hommage pours a hazy crimson color with just a tiny wisp of an off white head. The raspberries are definitely noticeable in the nose, although the cherries are surprisingly prominent. A strong tart aroma has a strong acetic vinegar component to it. The acidity in the aroma seems to mostly overwhelm any funky wild elements that might be there. Cherry is actually the stronger flavor coming through with my first sip. Tart cherries, overripe cherry skin, sour raspberry, red grapes, oak, and balsamic vinegar all come together nicely. The flavor has a gentle sweetness up front and then strikes a nice balance between fruity tartness and acetic vinegar. There is a slightly off-putting plasticy note that comes through at the beginning of the sip, but other than that this is very enjoyable. It has a nice, smooth, medium body for a lambic that is peppered with vinegar acidity. The carbonation is on the lighter side of medium, and there is a slightly oaky and tannic finish. This is clearly a well-crafted lambic. I thought that raspberries would be the dominant fruit, but I was not disappointed that the cherries came through so strongly. The plastic flavor in the flavor was enough for me to knock down the flavor and overall score, but everything else was solid.
