4.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
HUGE thanks to xpimptastikx for bringing this beer to our impromptu/epic tasting last night. 750ml corked & caged bottle into a Ranger Creek tulip.
Hommage pours with a rosy, violet-amber hue studded with a fine yeasty haze. A pink, Valentine’s day head retains surprisingly well. Gorgeous beer! Sadly, the aroma has not held up to age as well as the appearance. Big phenolic notes greet the nose alongside a leathery, cheesy, funky armpit presence. Cooked asparagus and green olives were suggested, and I agree. However, sniff past the pickled funkiness and there are some nice acetic berry tones lurking beneath.
All is forgiven upon the first sip. This Lambic is heavenly in flavor, with a super tart lactic punch to the sides of the tongue offset by a decadent, funky raspberry jam note in the middle. Mouthfeel is dry, tart, and refreshing with a perfect carbonation level. Overall, an amazing beer; I am grateful that I got the opportunity to try Hommage. It’s a shame the nose hadn’t held up, but the deliciousness more than makes up for that fact. Thanks again Michael!

3 Fonteinen’s Hommage is considered one of the preeminent Fruit Lambics of the world. With raspberry, cherry, and wild yeast, this 3 Fontenein blend is a Hommage a Trois (I’m starting early with the bad puns) shared by these 3 sour, yeasty components. Deep red pour. Tart, funky aroma with some flashes of syrupy sweetness. An acidic flavor profile at the start which gradually transitions toward fruitiness. The raspberry comes through especially well. It’s a lively feel with a stickiness that lingers. A lovely beer, but it comes at a steep price.

Bottle in a taster. Pours brown with a beige head. Aroma of sourness, raspberry, some light oak and funk with a little cough syrup. Flavor the same with a cough syrup on the finish sort of ruining it. Average texture. Good but expecting better.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter. Batch 2. Originally review 5/18/2014.
Deep red. Pinkish in the light. Nice light pink head. Thin layer of foam on the surface.
Smell is intense raspberry. Just a little bit of sour cherry aroma. Lightly funky. Some lemony acidity and wheat grain.
The lambic base is more dominant in the flavor. Lactic sourness. The raspberry is less jammy and sweet. Wheat graininess. Funky finish with a little bit of yogurt tang lingering in the finish.
Medium body. Medium carbonation. Moderately sour.
The fruit is really intense in the nose, but the lambic shines in the taste.

Marmelade red, thick sirup viscosity and very little foam. Raspberry sirup/marmelade nose. The taste is thick and gooey with a full fruity touch. This beer is awesomely balanced sourness, fruitiness and carbonation. Sourish fruity aftertaste.
