UPDATED: FEB 15, 2015 12.7 oz bottle poured into shaker. Clear red to purple with no head or lacing. Aroma is tart cherries, cherry cough syrup, sour cherry, breadcrumb malt, and some oak. Taste is moderately sour with lactic acidity under cherry skin flavors, lightly sweet cherry juice, and if you focus there?s a little wood and leather bitterness; the medicinal flavor is prominent, which I find unfortunate. Light to medium body, sticky texture, low carbonation, and a lip-puckering dry finish.

Bottle. Deep red body with a medium pink head. Cherries, funk, tart, marzipan/almonds. Funky flavour, really tart cherries, oak, yeast, marzipan. I’ve never had a 3 Fonteinen as sour as this. Nice.

Very nice stuff. Great mix of bretta and cherry. Light hint of citrus and grapefruit. Some of that trademark drie fonteinen crackery bretta. Pours cloudy ruby with pink head and lacing. Bittersour finish. Great beer. Bottle bought a couple years back at Hill Farmstead. 2012 November bottled.

Bottle->tulip. Deep red with vibrant pink head. As expected, this is loaded with cherry. Sweet, then tart, then slightly funky in waves. Really good.

(375ml 2014 bottle from Brewberry Cave, Paris) Pours opaque deep reddish purple with a short lived small pinkish head and no lace. Aroma is intensely (!) dominated by tart cherry flesh and skin. Moderate cider vinegar acidity is balanced by a bit of sweetness to give a sour cherry pie filling quality. Typical 3F funk with some notes of wet vegetation, musty, soft barnyard, just a bit of wood. Flavour is serious sour cherry, flesh and acidic tartness with lemony lactic quality. The funk is is restrained and limited to a wet earthy character in the middle. The finish is moderately lactic and the aftertaste dry, with a good helping of cherry flesh and skin remaining. Medium bodied with fairly light carb. Perhaps unsurprisingly, this is a very cherry-dominated kriek, the criticism being that it crowds some of the other flavours that make up a more complex lambic out. It’s really quite nice stuff as you’d expect from 3 Fonteinen, it just doesn’t quite have the full package to match the fruit concentration like LPP Kriek.
