BrianK (190), Livingston, New Jersey, USA Feb 22, 2009 Shared by Ygtbsm94. Thanks Brad. More mellow flavor and aroma than Blauw.. I still feel like this one is developing and should be even better in a few years. Very different from Blauw. MiP (8793), Sønderborg, Denmark Jan 15, 2009 Bottle, 6.5%. Very nice fruity aroma, hint of dry wood, and slightly spicy. Cloudy dark orange colour. The flavour also has a lot of fruit, some grape notes, slightly sweet. Very nice finish, a good dry bitterness, as if from grape. Very well-rounded, easy to drink and pleasant throughout. SamGamgee (1395), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA Jan 11, 2009 75cl bottle thanks to ygtbsm94. Amber-gold with a smaller white head. Sour, citric and yoghurt aroma with less dust and sharp funk than the blauw that we had side-by side with it. Easier on the nose, but less satisfying in the mouth. A more mellow sourness with a woody, peppery finish that dries out the mouth. Lacks the awesome grapefruit-sour finish that the blauw had, but still quite good. argo0 (6842), Washington DC, USA Jan 10, 2009 (75cl bottle, thanks ygtbsm94) Small white head atop clear light amber body. Aroma is medium sweet, yeast, sour grapefruit, light orange, horseblanket. Taste is mild sweet, grapefruit, faint pepper. Light body, light acidity. kkearn (994), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 27, 2008 750mL, bottled 6.9.03. HUGE thanks to my cousin, ggaughan for providing this legendary beer for our annual Christmas Day tasting. Sampled side-by-side with the Blauw; I actually liked this one a bit better. Pours reddish gold, capped with a small off-white head. Tart aroma of wild yeast, grapefruit, pineapple, apricot, citrus, and leather. Tart flavor at first, but tartness settles as it is joined by citrus, white grape, barnyard, spice and leather. Long, wild finish, with notes of spice and grass. Less tart than the Blauw, and very drinkable. Phenomenal beer. Thanks again, Greg!
Dedollewaitor (3622), Odense, Denmark Dec 27, 2008 75cl bottle at Delirium. Pours unclear orange with a creamy white foam and lacings. Nose and taste are both wonderful. Smooth and unoffensive in a good way. Earthy, crisp, dry, leather, barnyard, wood. Pleasant sourness. A sour bite which I would describe as velvet. Quenching and crisp. Soooo Nice. PS. Buy it in Liedekercke instead. More than 20 Euros cheaper there. Skyview (4007), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Nov 19, 2008 Received a 750 ml bottle via trade with Papsoe, pours a semi-clear golden pale brew with an average white head that has some nice lacing and thin ring after dissipation. Aroma of mild barnyard funk, some tropical fruit, yeast and a touch of citrus zest. Taste is tart with some fruity flavors, a touch of dry spice, yeast funk with a touch of lemon. Finish is semi-dry, with a light tart fruit and dry pepper spice aftertaste. Guerde (693), Welcome, Minnesota, USA Oct 24, 2008 (bottle, big thanks to Skyview for sharing this rare beer at the Sourfest!) Pours clear gold with a medium white head. The aroma is a little toned down on the funk compared to the Blauw, but it’s still present. There’s also a good deal of fruit scents with unripe peach and pineapple in the mix. The taste is quite briny, lightly sour with lemon peel, and some oak is there. The finish is quite peppery and not bone dry like the Blauw. The mouthfeel is medium, and this is a very fine gueuze indeed.
