egajdzis (3598), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 28, 2008 Poured a hazy golden color with a small white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of brett, citrus fruits, some leather, green apple, tropical fruits, and a musty cellar. Taste of brett, lemon peel, citrus fruits, more green apple all fused together with the gueuze backbone. A very soft, and well put together lambic here, thanks to Steve for sharing these! bgburdman9 (822), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jun 28, 2008 An old rating i finally got to entering. Poured a orange yellow color with not much of a head at all . Aroma was real sour overall. Really tart. Left a bitter taste that was sour on the tongue. Barnyard taste with a weird bitter taste that tingled the tongue. Very nice beer. hopdog (5525), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 27, 2008 750ml bottle acquired in a couple trades. Tasted side x side with the Blauw. Poured a medium and cloudy orangish color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of funk, citrus, floral, and just ’tart’. Tastes of sweet tarts funk, lighter green apples, wood, and tart. Medium pucker factor. Compared to the Blauw, I wrote; this one is smoother and overall more balanced and ’tastier’ (but don’t confuse tastier with better). TomDecapolis (3127), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 26, 2008 Much thanks to hopdog. Pours a hazy golden/orange with a smaller bubbly off white head. Aroma of was funky, barnyard, floral, perfume, oak, vanilla, citrus...wow. Flavor of the same, funky, apple, oak, tart, sour lightly acidic. mabel (2530), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 15, 2008 [1224-20080328] 750mL bottle. Lightly spiced applesauce aroma. Hazy, medium orange body with a medium-lasting creamy white head. Spicy applesauce and lemon pip flavour with a sour and dry aftertaste. Sour spicy medium body. Lovely!
(Vintage from 06-09-2003 wedding; w/ blankboy, GregClow, HogTownHarry, jerc, tupalev) kepano (239), Meudon, France Jun 4, 2008 Much touted, highly elusive, here’s a beer from a favorite brewer that just couldn’t disappoint. The frosty orange hue shows pretty nuances of pink, topped of a simple white cream. The nose displays a flabbergasting array of fruits and flowers. The house character is reflected through notes of peach, apricot, oaky vanilla and the unique sweetness of brown sugar. Lavender and rose add an unusual but remarkably pleasant touch, as the aroma slowly unfolds. Mango, apple, tangerine and pineapple proceed one after the other as the brew warms up expressively. The background is a true lambic foundation of cheesy, dusty, cobwebby scents that marry beautifully with honey and cotton candy. The flavor perfectly balances sweet, sour and dry. Raspberry and cherry are prominent at first as the palate shifts to an enjoyable dry Gruyère flavor and finishes on a smoky cedar note. The sourness remains smooth, almost yogurt-like, never impeding on the equilibrium of fruits and spices. Cinnamon, clove, white pepper and potpourri appear subtly with time. Like many high-quality lambics, this one becomes incredibly complex and delicious near room temperature. Another outstanding gueuze from Drie Fonteinen. pintsize (1042), Austin, Texas, USA Jun 3, 2008 5-24-08 bottle shared by Miketd - thanks
Thick yellow orange in color with little lasting head. Smell is sour and tart but more mild in the nose. Flavor is milder as well (compared to the Blauw) and is still dry and sharp but just more subtle and mild overall. However, this almost seems a hint more balanced than the blauw - with a more drinkable flavor. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA May 30, 2008 Bottle shared by miketd. Thanks, man.
Pours a nice golden color with a light head. Smell is sour, tart, funky, and bright. Flavor is tart, with mild flavor otherwise. Very sour, but very neutral otherwise. Pretty good, but didn’t blow me away.
