Magicdave6 (5383), London, Greater London, England Aug 28, 2007 Updated: Jul 22, 2008Bottle, huge thanks to Mes, rbesg07. Alround an amazing gueuze, funky yeasty tart apples, lots of sourness, great carbonation. This would be a top 10 for me however theres a slight apple dryness that slight get sin the way, still utterly outstanding. RERATE: Bottle thanks to Mes for my 23rd bday in Lowlander. Alround awsomeness, the hoppy apple character of the boon and the girardin sweetness are just great. Ernest (4481), Boulder, Colorado, USA Jul 1, 2005 Bottle, Denderleeuw, De Heeren van Liedekercke, May 2005.
Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly lasting.
Body is hazy dark yellow, bottle conditioned.
Aroma is moderately malty (toasted grain), moderately yeasty (barnyard, horseblanket), with notes of hay, grass, cask wood, lemon peel, sour apple, etc.
Flavor is moderately sweet, heavily acidic.
Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter.
Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation, lightly astringent.
Woooooooo. That’s what I’m talkin’ about. This was my fave of the two J&J lambics, the Blauw being a bit more harsh/sour and less aromatically appealing. This is among the best geuze I’ve ever had, and as fate would have it, extremely hard to come by. That’s the way life is, I suppose. Cletus (5001), Connecticut, USA Aug 27, 2006 Pours yellow with a thin white head. Smells of horseblanket, wild meadows, hay, straw, old wood. Taste is very tarte with extreme salt, sugar, fruit, chardonnay, wood. JorisPPattyn (5155), Antwerpen, Belgium Aug 1, 2004 Amber-shot orange gueuze; clearly orange coloured, slim head, fast gone. Superb nose, woody, horseblanket, vying to be amongst the most complex gueuzes ever tried. Effortlessly succeeding. End of the nose is very citrussy. Superbly dry, woody, with bamboo-shoot flavour, glue or organic solvent; lemon, pineapple, pinewood, turpentine. Superbly tart, huge dry-out effect. This beer is a one-off, but can be obtained at De Heeren van Liedekercke (Denderleeuw). IF you’re deemed worthy enough. I wasn’t for one, but thank God one of my friends was - because this is undoubtely a true top-gueuze. "Woody" gets a new meaning here. egajdzis (3598), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 28, 2008 Poured a hazy golden color with a small white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of brett, citrus fruits, some leather, green apple, tropical fruits, and a musty cellar. Taste of brett, lemon peel, citrus fruits, more green apple all fused together with the gueuze backbone. A very soft, and well put together lambic here, thanks to Steve for sharing these! MesandSim (5790), London, Greater London, England Nov 8, 2006 A Mes rate: 75cl bottle from De Heeren van Liedekercke (of course) but shared at home with Duff and Sim. I wish now I had bought back the male version so I could try them side by side but right now I have to say this was better, but I prefer ladies anyway...
Again just like the Blauw, lots of wooden character. Specifically Eucalyptus bark. Appearance has a definite pink hue and I am sure this does not happen by chance. Attention grabbing and attacks the tastebuds as all good lambics should but there is something wonderfully mellow about this too. Slightly ferocious it may but when you sit and think about it you realise that it all just seems really effortless and polite. It is sheer beauty. Yes there is citric acidity and a pointy dry finish, lots of earthy barnyard character and musty old leather notes. But it is just incredibly refined and to be honest just downright sexy. Mouthfeel is simply second to none. I fell in love with it from the very first sip. An utterly fantastic beer and a glowing tribute to a lovely lady. Miver (551), WillowStreet, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 8, 2008 Updated: Jul 13, 2008Thanks to Hopdog for sharing this 750ml bottle dated 6-9-2003. It poured cloudy gold in color with a few sparse white bubbles. Aroma is tart, brett funkiness, oak and awesome. Taste is tart, oaky, funky, citric, and just wonderful. The Roze has more of a mellow tartness, and overall more flavors then the Blauw. It’s really a complex brew to describe, but it really is incredible. I never thought I’d have the chance to try this. Thanks again Steve!!! duff (5474), Surrey, Greater London, England Oct 24, 2005 Bottle. Many thanks to Joris? for cracking this one out at the low countries gathering. This was very good indeed. Of course there is all the things you expect a good gueuze to have. Smelly horse stables aroma. Lime, citrus, wood, earth and a slightly toasty character. Lovely mouthfeel, almost perfectly balanced (well, pretty close to perfect anyway!) between tart and sour. The finish is quite dry. Woody than most other Gueuze i’ve had previously, but it makes this a little more interesting than most others. Very good, glad i got to try it.
