5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 SpencerDB (223) - Charlotte, USA - FEB 20, 2011
Popped next to Blauw thanks to Craytonic. You’re the man Matt. Poured into a snifter a pretty clear orange. Clean orange pour. Thin white head, no lacing. Almost still. This is a real delicacy. Peppery aroma. White and black pepper. Funky. Pie crust. Sweaty socks. bready. Best nose of any beer I’ve ever had. If I could have rated the aroma 11 I would have. The taste is full on funky awesomeness. White pepper and sharp funk. Smooth, perfect mouthfeel. Added the yeast and it was spectacular. This is by far the best lambic, beer, consumable I’ve ever had. An absolutely incredible nose of pungent funk and pepper. I would bathe in this beer. Cheers to everyone that had a part in making/blending. Superb. Crushed Blauw in every way. Giving it a 5 is an understatement.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Scopey (1652) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 18, 2012
Bottle, generously shared by The Cad at Mikkeller Bar. It pours hazy golden yellow, with a thick white head. The nose is rather soft: floral, funk, farmyard, lemon and medicinal notes. The taste is white and red grape, soft fruit, red apple, floral, lemon and hints of spice, with a dry, tart finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation and velvety mouth-feel. A very good gueuze for sure, but I would opt for quite a few other 3 Fonteinen options above this.

bottled, at rbesg07. fizzy murky amber with no real head; salty fishcake aroma with some lemon rind cheesecake; rasping with a ciderish apple peel tartness and plenty of capers and some maggi seasoning; sharp and full-on and beautiful
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Dunt (88) - Illinois, USA - MAY 12, 2012
Bottle provided generously by Sean. Thank you for the extremely rare tick man. Pours a cloudy pale orange in color with a half fingers worth of white head. Nose is classic 3F gueuze with a touch of sweetness. It’s funky as usual, must and cobweb. Flavor isn’t in your face funk like a vintage gueuze or an aged regular Oude gueuze, it is a touch sweeter and slightly perfume-like? Still delicious don’t get me wrong. Mouthfeel is light and spritzy, with a moderate finish. We sampled this side by side with blauw, and in my person opinion blauw was a far superior beer. Not to say that this isn’t a phenomenal gueuze, but blauw was just flat out better. Thank you Sean for the opportunity at these beers. It was truly a treat to try them side by side.
