750mL bottle shared by puzzl, thanks Andy. It is a thick, dusty, golden color that one cannot see through. Aroma is all rubber and horse-hay with citric spikes. Very intense and pure aged 3F aroma. Flavor is surprisingly different, very calm, intensity turned down. Its just like citric juice, has a bit of a meaty character to it. Has a very dry citric finish.

Thanks to Chad (cpferris) for the hook up at our sour tasting. Pours a very hazy dark golden orange with slight yellow hues, kind of a ripe banana color, and a two finger frothy white head wiith excellent retention, only slowly fading into a lasting cap and ring. Beautiful musty barnyard aroma with a berg prominent horseblanlet presence. Hints of cobwebs, foot, bandaid, earth and lactic creaminess. The aroma on this beer is incredible with lots of complex funk and sweet light fruit. Hints of crisp light fruit, maybe some apple, pear and grape with maybe some straw and grass. I’ve been taking in the aroma for several minutes and haven’t been able to even sip it yet. Surprisingly full chewy mouthfeel, especially for the style. Very tart and puckering yet not acidic with slight lactic creaminess, erthy funk and oaky tannis. Sweet crisp light fruit notes, mostly apple and pear. Somewhat vinous with a sweet lingering vinegar character. Subtle dry finish. Complex yet very quaffable with a slightly dry finish. Highly recommended!

Bottle shared at puzzl’s New Year’s Eve 2009: (Thanks Andy!) Like Andy noted, the cork popped off with great force- pouring a beautiful cloudy golden with a thick white head that retains nicely. The aroma is so cheesy and funky with tons of citric acidity, rustic farmhouse, cheese rind, cobwebby notes, and lots of lemony citric acidity. Very complex. Fluffy dry body- quite dry in fact. Minerally notes in the flavor along with the traditional horse blanket, citric citrusy presence, old wood and just full of rustic nuance. The flavor is actually note quite as enticing as the aroma, but it’s still exceptional.

Bottled on New Years Eve. The cork pops like a true champagne, and this pours with a lovely head. Unfortunately, the rest of this ends in disappointment; it’s not that it’s not good — it is — but does this truly stack up with the world’s best gueuze, especially at this age? Not even close.

The aroma is citric, lemony, with a mild, cutting acidity, and a very strong mineral character. Decent complexity with some hay, cheese, overcooked bacon notes.

In the mouth the beer is kind of thin and lemony, with more minerals and the most minor acidic finish. It tastes like a gueuze that’s aged too long. It simply fails to impress compared to the staples or the most celebrated vintages. It is just lacking in complexity, body... eh. Count me saddened.

Bottle at Lambikodroom. Cloudy, golden liquid with a rather large, white head. Rich, complex aroma with a lot of acidity, and mustiness, with notes of bitter herbs and burnt rubber. Taste is dusty and very complex with some burnt rubber and a hint of raisins. Really a fantastic beer in every way. Memorable.

[9/4/08] Bottle at LambikODroom in Beersel. Hazy orange-golden color with a huge (but quickly-diminishing) bubbly white head. Beautiful aroma of barnyard, some sweat, some lemony notes, light soapy hints, wood and some earth-after-rain. Refreshing sour flavor with some citrus, vinegar notes, some tropical fruits touches, earth and oak. Light sweetness in the back. Medium-bodied with soft carbonation. Delicious.

Bottle. Shared by my cousin, ggaughan, to celebrate his brother’s wedding. Pours slightly hazy brownish gold, capped with a huge off-white head. Aroma is tart, with notes of straw, lemon, and wild yeast with wood and earth in the background. Flavor is beautiful; it’s quite tart and acidic, with lots of lemon at the forefront. Lime, white grape, straw, leather, oak and wild yeast add complexity to the palate. Finishes very dry, with oak and bretty funk. This was beautiful; I’m really glad I got to try it.

Always a treat to sample a retired beer. Big pop from the cork. Big lasting head, clumps together as iit sinks. Dark gold-amber liquid. Big sharp sinus clearing salt-cheese-gueze scent. Sharp flavour but not overly cheesy or salty. Don’t notice the ABV. Hard to believe this beer is so old.! The flavour is so fresh.
