4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 jbrus (4990) - Delft, NETHERLANDS - MAR 6, 2004
Ohh, heaven! Tart, fruity, oak and citrus aroma. Cloudy, amber/golden color, large white head. Light sweet, light tart, oak, intens but soft. Very soft finish, perfect balance.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 JorisPPattyn (6710) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - JAN 24, 2004
Gushing to preposterously large head; hazy peach coloured beer. Overwhelming citrus and wood nose (lemonwood), very woody even, at the same time as fine lemon - but only 'whiffs' of Brett. Tart taste, and - very surprisingly - spicey palate on top of a citrussy, lemony start. Wood in the palate too. Faint lavender and thyme. Not very heavy body. Dry, but not exaggeratedly so. Acids are subdued -just my oesophagus thinks otherwise. Aftertaste has a little bitterness - not surprisingly woody in character. I cannot say this gueuze is really overwhelming me. Obviously everything has been done to suppress acidity and express Brett-character. And if t'is better therefore - I tend to dispute.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Ungstrup (23913) - Oamaru, NEW ZEALAND - OCT 9, 2003
UPDATED: JUL 7, 2004 OK, my tastebuds have evolved over the past 9 months: A hazy orange beer with a huge collapsing head. The aroma is sour, with notes of wood and grapefruit. And the flavor is lovely sour with notes of grapefruit.
------& unclear orange beer with a fine but fast disappearing head. The aroma is sour and metallic. The flavor is a sour geueze flavor. A good geueze but not great. Too sour for my tastebuds. = 5/3/5/3/11

UPDATED: APR 29, 2003 Bottled. This unlabelled 75cl bottle is not exactly what I drink any day, so it was poured with great care. Dark yellow and hazy with rich lively head. Tart, barnyardy aroma. Citric and acidic with clean malt profile. Dry and lightly grassy with bitterish finish.
