Ungstrup (11354), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 9, 2003 Updated: Jul 7, 2004OK, my tastebuds have evolved over the past 9 months: A hazy orange beer with a huge collapsing head. The aroma is sour, with notes of wood and grapefruit. And the flavor is lovely sour with notes of grapefruit.
-----------------
An unclear orange beer with a fine but fast disappearing head. The aroma is sour and metallic. The flavor is a sour geueze flavor. A good geueze but not great. Too sour for my tastebuds. = 5/3/5/3/11 omhper (10728), Stockholm, Sweden Apr 28, 2003 Updated: Apr 29, 2003Bottled. This unlabelled 75cl bottle is not exactly what I drink any day, so it was poured with great care. Dark yellow and hazy with rich lively head. Tart, barnyardy aroma. Citric and acidic with clean malt profile. Dry and lightly grassy with bitterish finish. Papsoe (10285), Frederiksberg, Denmark Aug 1, 2008 (Bottle 75 cl) Lightly hazy golden with a rough off-white head. Fresh, astringent, Brettish nose. Medium body with a fairly complex Brett character and a lightly astringent and sour finish. But actually a fairly mellow and drinkable gueuze. 290608 Oakes (6973), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Dec 12, 2006 Updated: Dec 19, 2007Dec 17, 2007 (the beershine bottle): Hazy beige, dull. No head, but there’s still carbo (this bottle was frozen). Aroma of pear, leather and cloth-wrapped cheshire. Appetizingly tart with slight leather, peach and grapefruit. Smooth, complex gueuze with a sweetish splash in the finish to make it that much more approachable. 8 2 7 4 16 = 3.7
Dec 12, 2006 (the sk8viking
bottle): Hazy, vibrant dark straw colour. Aroma of leather, pear, wood and light sweat. Relatively smooth and sweet. Light malts on the palate with hints of leather and a shade of wood. Way too mellow for my tastes, lacking the depth and nuance of a classic gueuze. yespr (6889), Copenhagen O, Denmark Jun 30, 2008 RBESG2008: 75 cL bottle. Pours hazy orange with a slowy collapsing white head. Aroma is dry wooden and orange fruity. Flavour is smooth orange fruity and nicely acidic with a light yeasty touch towards the finish. Nice wooden base to a delicate orange citric flavour into the finish. Nice lingering dry and light sulphorish into the far finish. Very smooth and balanced.
