75 cl bottle @ home. Bottled on 17.02.2011
Aroma is sour and tart with lots of earthy notes and grapefruit. Palate is too high on CO2. Flavour is really sour with grapefruit, earthy notes, some peppery spices and hints of orange. Hardcore stuff.

Bottle: Many thanks, Ed. Cloudy, nearly opaque amber-orange, vibrant body with a chunky & super-foamy, brittle white head. Nice lacing. Aroma is... whoa! Funky as HELL. Musty sweatsocks, damp cheesecloth, funky horseblanket, mild cheese, sweaty feet... Wow. Balanced nicely, however, by a large lemon & stone fruit sourness with a puckering acidity that’s noticeable from the smell alone. Very woody & earthy back-end. Taste hits with that apple skin, stone fruit, & borderline lemon sourness up front, jolting your taste buds. Lots of wet oak & funky wood with a huge back-end of funk, funk, FUNK. Cheesy funk, sweaty funk, musty funk. Barnyard floor, dirty feet, sweaty horses... Perfect balance with the tartness, nice level of acidity. Bone dry finish. It’s like Armand’s version of Cantillon’s Cuvée des Champions, only this is exceedingly better. A fantastic gueuze, absolutely delicious.

Bottle at home. Bottled 2011. Pours a hazy light amber colour with a huge, soapy, beige head. Very carbonated. Compact aroma with fruity vinegar, forest floor, sour wild berries, spices, some horse citrus and oak. Very sour at first with lots of citric acid and lemon. Towards the end more sweet fruit and berries comes forward. In addition there’s some nutty and earthy tones. Has a slick and sparkly mouth feel, and a medium grape skin bitterness. A solid and sour gueuze but the flavour is less complex than expected from a promising aroma.

Bottle: The aroma consists of citrus, sweaty feet, cheese, light dust, and musty basement. It pours a hazy orange/amber with a two finger head that eventually fades to a thin film outlined by a slightly thicker ring. The flavor starts with moderate citrus and lemon. The finish has some funky notes, oak, must, and a touch of floral notes. It’s light bodied with moderate-lively carbonation. Overall, really tasty and probably one of the most funky Drie Fonteinen beers I’ve had.

Bottle. Very aggressive head, orange town pour with white head. Tart, oak, funk and fruit aromas. Body is highly carbonated for a gueze, nice tart gueze like finish.

Very tart. Sour front with some vinegar with a rubber compound aroma. Tasty, some nice penny and sharp spiced grass. Somewhat gassy flavour. Tastes like touching a 9V to your tongue. Wild and fun. Love it.

Bottle shared at DC Annual Epic Sour Tasting, thanks Travlr! Caramel brown with off-white head. Aromas of barnyard funk, wheat. Tasting notes of banana, tart fruit, funk. Medium-light body with a dry finish. Nice.

From a bottle shared at the DC Epic Sour Beer Tasting. Pours a clear gold with an off white head. Classic barnyard funk aroma. Flavors are grassy, bandaids and sour lemon.

Pours thick unclear orange with a big creamy off white head. Aroma brings perfect sweet candi, grassy notes, and citrus tart. Flavor brings smooth citrus tart as well ending with no pucker at all, so smooth on the tongue.

Orange pour. Nose is floral citrus, light funk, minerals. Very tart, citrus, bitter finish, harsh initially but cleaner as it warms, lingering tart lemon, spritzy citrus - lemon, pop rocks, minerals.

Big thanks to FooFaa for opening this one for us to try. I have wanted to try this one for quite awhile now.

A - Pours clear golden orange with a small half finger tall white head, quickly dissipating down to a light film, leaving small streaks of lace on the sides of the glass.

S - Smells of strong barnyard funk, lots of minerals, damp basement, mild lemon zest and lightly toasted grain. I love that it still smells like the normal oude gueuze but turned up a notch or two.

T - Pretty much more of the same. Starts off with the intense barnyard funkiness and plenty of earthy minerals slowly being joined by the damp basement, fruit zest and light grains. Finish is spritzy funk, lingering long after the finish.

M - Medium body with moderate carbonation. The funky feel is quite nice really, it is noticeable but it doesn’t overpower. I could have easily polished off the whole bottle.

O - Probably the best gueuze I have had in recent memory. All of the typical Drie Fonteinen flavors are there in spades yet it is super easy to drink. Glad I could finally try this one, thanks Dan!
