4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Ungstrup (23917) - Oamaru, NEW ZEALAND - MAR 11, 2006
An unclear orange beer with a thin white head. The aroma is super acidic with notes of grapefruit and wood, and the flavor is also lovely acidic with lots of grapefruit notes, and with a dry metallic end.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Papsoe (22946) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - MAR 10, 2006
(Bottle 37,5 cl) Pours a hazy honey golden with a creamy, off-white head. Distinct acidity in the nose, but also fruit, barnyard, manure and horse sweat - all the usual Brett characteristics. Light body with lots of fruitiness, citrus - grapefruit in particular - and acidity. But actually surprisingly smooth and mellow. This is not the kinda gueuze that makes your tongue crumble. 37.5 cL bottle, thanks to Jeppe. Pours hazy orange with a slowly diminishing off-white head. Aroma is barnyard and orange fruity. Light wood note. Flavour starts solid citric before a dry wooden note appears. Light orange fruity finish with a that classic brett/yeasty tartness. Dry and wooden yet smooth and fruity too - nice balance.

Bottled. Hazy golden, firm fluffy head. Distinct citric nose where barnyard is very evident. Soft, lively and juicy with concentrated flavours. Acidic and ultra-complex, yet frefreshingly drinkable. A super premium gueuze.

Bottled (thanks omhper). Firstly, the cork flew in the wooden roof, and almost broke it, so beware of high pressure. A bit hazy golden colour, mediumsized head. Aroma is sourness and fruits. Flavour is dry and sour oak. Extremely smooth to drink. Long sour fruitish aftertaste. Just superb!

opaque orange, fine white head, drippy lace, musty aroma with a light lemony tartness, creamy body, tart lemon flavor, the tartness starts small and grows throughout the swallow, a nice amount of funk provides some complexity,

Corked half bottle Hazy blond color; giant head; intense and fine perlage. Strong aroma, dry, of cellar, citrus fruits (lemon and some grapefruit). Over a soft malt there is an extreme astringency; the sourness is ordinary for this kind of beer; at the end the astringency dominates again, with grapefruit sourness and fruitness, and bitter orange peels. Complex. A great pleasure.
