Oude Kriek 3 Fonteinen is produced by ripening of cherries (both the flesh and the seeds) in young Lambic. This process takes between 6 to 8 months. After bottling the beer matures for at least 4 months in a warm room where the spontaneous fermentation in the bottle is done.
The head of Oude Kriek is very sensitive to the concentration of the cherry seeds containing oil and may differ from one year to the other.
On old Cherry 3 Fonteinen, no flavorings, sweeteners, or dyes added which makes this beer very natural and is especially thirst quenching.

Note: Recent labels may show the beer to contain 35% of Schaerbeekse Krieken.

375 ml bottle, 1 year old. Pours a ruby red body with a medium to small pinkish head. Aroma has soft notes of cherry and some old dusty hay. Pleasantly tingly/tart mouthfeel. Taste has some unsweet cherries but what I get more is a flavour resembling cranberries! If somebody said it also contained cranberries I would believe them. Medium to low sweetness. Above medium tartness, grows drier in the finish. Refreshing and highly drinkable, but the complexity does not quite reach the levels of "3 Fonteinen Oude Geuze".

Excellent if not perfect. Cherries and some sherry aroma notes. Starts out red pour and cherry taste. The oak Barnard and big tartness add to the cherry flavors. Finishes like a good cherry sherry or brandy.
