Oude Kriek 3 Fonteinen is produced by ripening of cherries (both the flesh and the seeds) in young Lambic. This process takes between 6 to 8 months. After bottling the beer matures for at least 4 months in a warm room where the spontaneous fermentation in the bottle is done.
The head of Oude Kriek is very sensitive to the concentration of the cherry seeds containing oil and may differ from one year to the other.
On old Cherry 3 Fonteinen, no flavorings, sweeteners, or dyes added which makes this beer very natural and is especially thirst quenching.

Note: Recent labels may show the beer to contain 35% of Schaerbeekse Krieken.

2014 bottle, pretty young but I sometimes lack some self-control in matters of sour beer. Pours a deep purple with delicate pink foam. Beautiful. Swirl it up a bit for a gorgeous display of deep red to pink tones. Lovely mineral and funk on the nose, cherry and wood as well. Taste is balanced with considerable funk, moderate tartness, sour cherry. Elegant and classic. Looking forward to cracking a more aged one some day.

Bottle - Tart, vinous and sweet cherry. Deep red and cloudy with a thin head. Cherries dominate and are sweet with a touch of tartness. Light acidity and more sweetness,

2014 Looks..a vibrant cherry red, thin line of dissipating head on pour. Smells.. Cherrys, wood, old, musty.. Tastes..the tart and fruity cherry just influences the balance over quality lambic sourness, finishes some wood dryness.. What else could you possibly want from a cherry kriek?!

From the December 2014 3R6P tasting. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz green bottle this beer poured a clear dark red color with a small pink head that faded quickly and left no lacing. The aroma was chalky and tart with cherry and was a touch medicinal. The flavor was funky and sweet with a strong cherry pie filling presence. Long cherry pie filling finish. Light to medium body. Solid.

Bottle from Mane Liquor. No idea why I haven’t tracked this down sooner. Pours blood red with a thick beige head. Nose is very horse blanket forward with mild cherry and it’s a little juicy too. The thing I like about this is the fact the cherries aren’t the main show, it’s all about the balance and drinkability. Goes down an absolute treat. Would love a fair few pints of this one. Tasty as

37.5CL Bottle from Bierkoning, Amsterdam. Pours a beautiful ruby red, with delicate pink foam. Aroma very fruity with a hint of oak. Flavour is balanced but possibly leaning a little too much towards the oak. Overall not bad, but given the high price also not great.
