Oude Kriek 3 Fonteinen is produced by ripening of cherries (both the flesh and the seeds) in young Lambic. This process takes between 6 to 8 months. After bottling the beer matures for at least 4 months in a warm room where the spontaneous fermentation in the bottle is done.
The head of Oude Kriek is very sensitive to the concentration of the cherry seeds containing oil and may differ from one year to the other.
On old Cherry 3 Fonteinen, no flavorings, sweeteners, or dyes added which makes this beer very natural and is especially thirst quenching.

Note: Recent labels may show the beer to contain 35% of Schaerbeekse Krieken.

375ml bottle. Hazy pink body with a medium pink/white head. Cherry, almond, some tart and a very discrete sourness. Refreshing.

Bottled. Hazy purple pink colour with good condition and a noisy pale pink head. Restrained aromas of cherry almond and fireworks, in the mouth it threatens sourness but somehow manages to avoid vinegar notes. Again the cherry flavour is understated, almost an afterthough. Finish is long refreshing and dry. Like sucking a piece of leather, but thats good.

Bottle from Pepsi. Pours a flat, dark red color with just a few white bubbles. Not that sour with a moderate amount of fruit character. Mouthfeel is a bit off due to no carbonation. No really sour, kinda needed for the style. Meh.

Bottle share thanks to Homer. Again, in the same night. Pours a dark red, no head. Aroma is tart, cherry, sour. Bottle from 2009. Taste is not that sour, almost watery. Itís more of cherry juice than sour lambic beer. Really surprising.

375 ml bottle dated June 11th, 2013. Aroma dominated by lots of juicy cherry character with a hint of sweetness. Medium acidity with a light barnyard character and hints of herbal, earthy notes. Pours a slightly murky, dull red with ruby and light brown hues and a big pink head that quickly disappears. No lacing and faint legs. Flavor is fairly juicy with quite a bit of bright cherry notes, but is fairly dry with only a hint of sweetness. Medium acidity, mostly lactic with a hint of citrus. Light oak notes and tannins. Light barnyard notes and herbal character. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium high carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall a really nice, juicy kriek with a lot of cherry notes. I think I like them with a bit more age though as its adds some nice funkiness and and acidic complexity.

Very nice dark ruby red color! Smells like acid with flavour of pure fruit with no added sugar. Already find this famous sour "3 fonteinen" lambik from its smell. If you thing the "3 fonteinen" Geuze has a too sour taste then this one is even worse. I like the initial taste of real cherries, not the chemical ones. But I really hate the after-taste of medicin. Not even talking about the really sour apple you have to go through.

12.7 ounce bottle (2013, June 6th. 6% ABV) poured into a Flying Dog goblet. Pours dark ruby red with close to two fingers of light pink head. No lacing. Lots of carbonation flowing up the glass. Aromas of oak, vinegar, dark fruit including cherries, some funky notes. Tasting notes of big tart fruit, cherries, fruit jam, acidic notes, light oak. Medium body with a pretty dry finish. Medium-high carbonation, semi-juicy mouthfeel. One of the best cherry lambics Iíve had so far!
