Oude Kriek 3 Fonteinen is produced by ripening of cherries (both the flesh and the seeds) in young Lambic. This process takes between 6 to 8 months. After bottling the beer matures for at least 4 months in a warm room where the spontaneous fermentation in the bottle is done.
The head of Oude Kriek is very sensitive to the concentration of the cherry seeds containing oil and may differ from one year to the other.
On old Cherry 3 Fonteinen, no flavorings, sweeteners, or dyes added which makes this beer very natural and is especially thirst quenching.

Note: Recent labels may show the beer to contain 35% of Schaerbeekse Krieken.

Donker rood bier met weinig schuim. Smaak is Lambiek zuur met natuurlijk kers. Erg droog en zuur, blijft niet lang hangen

Poured a sample from the bottle. Pours with a pink head, deep burgundy in appearance. Aroma is cherries and some funk. Taste is mainly cherries and mild tartness with a short sour finish. Very easy on the palate, not as lively as a Gueuze.

375ml bottle from Mikkeller webshop. Deep red colour, pink foam head that dissipates away and aroma of sour cherry, fruity, funk. Taste is dark cherry, sour, with fruity, woody, sweet caramel, leather and barnyard notes. Spritzy mouthfeel, medium bodied, fine carbonation, dry tart finish. Very drinkable.

Corked and caged bottle shared with the missus. Deep red pour with a pinkish head that quickly settles. Loads of cherries, leather, vanilla with some discreet tartness. This was really good and refreshing!

Bottle shared with my sister at Ølbutikken, Copenhagen. Pours slightly hazy dark red with just a slight head. Aromas of fresh cherries, stable notes, slight leather, some yeast. Taste is very fruity up front, lots of yeast, some stable notes, slight leather and some vinous notes.

UPDATED: DEC 15, 2014 750ml bottle served in a flute glass. 2006 corked bottle. A: Pours a dark rose to purple color. Cloudy. Minimum carbonation (I guess that’s due to the bottle age). Forms a very small bubbled white head with minimal retention and no lacings left S: Fruity and woody. Cherry juice. A little bit sour. Lambic yeasts T: The best part. Just perfect. A Slightly sweet fruity upfront, followed by a tart cherry pie taste. Oak and malt. In overall a dry but veeeery smooth taste. Not aggressively tart as a Cantillon, for example, giving a quite winy sensation in the mouth. M: Light but slightly smooth body. Very low carbonation. Malty and tart aftertaste O: Excellent drinkability. I would like to taste a "younger" one (this is a 6 years old bottle) to compare. Absolutely great beer. No more comments...
