Oude Kriek 3 Fonteinen is produced by ripening of cherries (both the flesh and the seeds) in young Lambic. This process takes between 6 to 8 months. After bottling the beer matures for at least 4 months in a warm room where the spontaneous fermentation in the bottle is done.
The head of Oude Kriek is very sensitive to the concentration of the cherry seeds containing oil and may differ from one year to the other.
On old Cherry 3 Fonteinen, no flavorings, sweeteners, or dyes added which makes this beer very natural and is especially thirst quenching.

Note: Recent labels may show the beer to contain 35% of Schaerbeekse Krieken.

Head disappears immediately and the beer looks sad, like it is sitting there already for hours. Aroma is very nice, cherries, wood, cherry pits. Color is bright clear red. Taste is not bad but quite sour and I prefer sweeter krieks. Slightly disappointed though.

2004 vintage, bottle to glass, at the Kulminator. Pours a clear pinkish red color with a whitish pinkish head. Aroma is dry, cherries, touch of tartness. Flavor has a balanced sweet and tart cherry, but I think much of it has faded over past 11 years. Probably deserves another rating a bit more fresh.

Bottle. Pours Ruby with an initial fluffy Pink head which fades fast. Tart cherry aroma. A good dose of funk. Taste of vinegar, lemon and of course sour cherry. Nice degree of bitterness and a nice dry finish.

Bottle at Cardinal. Pours dark reddish with a tiny layer of bubbles. Inviting aroma of meaty, fresh sour cherries, this would be like it smells in heaven on a spring day, or maybe not. Taste is also full of those red high hanging cherries, fresh sourness, a wonderful elixir this one.

Pours a deep red with no head. Cherry aroma but not overwhelming. Nice tart taste and then a touch of sweetness.

Shared bottle at Mi2 at Cardinal 20.04.15. Clear ruby red. Pale pink head. Mature aroma of mature cherries. Complex taste with slightly sour cherries. Utterly superb, with high drinkability.

Bottle from BIAB Mostly clear ruby color with a decent sized pink tinged head that dissipates quickly. Earthy funky musty cherry juice makes up most of the nose. The flavor is a bit vinous with tart cherries and funkified earth. Moderate carbonation with a medium to light body. Great stuff.

sweet, perfumy, soft, cherry aroma. a little funky and a little woody, but not much. pours purple with beautiful pink head. lightly tart, sweet, and cherry flavor. some unripe raspberry/blackberry notes as well. a little woody and not very funky for a lambic. easy drinking, but would have liked more barnyard funk and more sourness.
