COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oude Kriek 3 Fonteinen is produced by ripening of cherries (both the flesh and the seeds) in young Lambic. This process takes between 6 to 8 months. After bottling the beer matures for at least 4 months in a warm room where the spontaneous fermentation in the bottle is done.
The head of Oude Kriek is very sensitive to the concentration of the cherry seeds containing oil and may differ from one year to the other.
On old Cherry 3 Fonteinen, no flavorings, sweeteners, or dyes added which makes this beer very natural and is especially thirst quenching.

Bottle @ 16th Weekend of Spontaneous Fermentation 2007, Opstal. Clear dark red color with a average frothy fair mostly diminishing pink head. Aroma is moderate sour / acidic, light cherry, sweetness. Flavor is moderate sweet, acidic and bitter with a average duration. Very nice balance. Body is light to medium, texture is watery, carbonation is flat.

The aroma is sweet with slight notes of cherries. The color is a clear red-brown and it has a light red fine but collapsing head. The flavor is of sour cherries with strong notes of wood and a underlying sourness, that brings out the saliva. An OK kriek, that places itself between the sweet ones and the sour ones.

(Bottle 37,5 cl) Vintage 2001 - in my version simply called "3 Fonteinen Kriek". Pours a hazy reddish with a bubbly, reddish head. Fresh, tart cherry aroma. Medium body with tart but also very fresh cherry notes. Distinct Brett and horse blanket - all the usual stuff - with a vaguely fusty edge. Excellent. 280607

UPDATED: SEP 9, 2007 37.5 cL bottle. Pours red, hazy with a quickly disappearing crispy head. Aroma is cherry sweet/sour and sulphorish. Biting sour flavour with clear cherry notes. Dry finish. I had my hopes high for something great, this was mediocre :( 6-3-6-3-13

From 75 cL bottle. Pours hazy red with a diminishing pink head. Sulphorish cherry aroma. Dry cherry flavour. Slight sour/citric. Sour citric finish. Nice. 6-4-7-3-14

This ratingis for the bottled version. Bright cherry red, very lively. Acidic nose with loads of raspberry and sweet cherry aroma. Though acidic the flavour is dominated by sweet cherries. Sourish finish finish with a hint of crystalized sugar. Very good, but there are more complex krieks. (Mind you, this beer is definitely not sweet, even if there are some sweetish flavour hints.)

Bottled. Dark ruby red colour, not much head. Aroma is extreme sourness along with some cherryish notes. Flavour is the same. A very nice thing, but still lacks some of the stuff that’s in the Van Schaerbeekse...

UPDATED: DEC 11, 2008 Bottle. Fruity, acidic, moldy aroma. Nice cloudy red colour. Small white head. Slightly acidic flavour with a hint of fruit. Very slight aftertaste like drinking cheap beer after red wine. 7 3 6 3 13

clear blood red, short lived frothy pink head, tart aroma with light oak, lip puckering strong sour cherry flavor obscures the touch of oak in the background, just not enough going on

the oak is coming through stronger on the aroma, the sourness creates such a drying effect, better but still not as great as it should be

Red color; flat. Some cherry and cherry kernels aroma, and sourness, of course. Very dry, not as complex as the Framboos, but honestly sour.
