Ughsmash (2835), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Aug 11, 2006 750 ml bottle. Poured a medium-to-dark raspberry/garnet with a little more than a dusting of pink headage. The nose was of sour cherry skins, dusty horseblanket, and oaky highlights. Flavor had bunches of sour cherries, oak, moderate sweetness, and light funkage... not bad, but nothing groundbreaking. Sour and tart on the palate with a dry, dusty, oaky finish. Another winner!
Blom (590), Odense, Denmark Jul 21, 2008 Rose coloured with no head. Cherry aroma with some sourness. The flavours are acid and sour but balance nicely with the berries. djtimeless (32), USA Jul 20, 2008 Pours out nice red with no head. Taste is nice sour cherries with some oak. Nice tart finish. Very good, refreshing. badbeer (391), Iowa, USA Jul 7, 2008 Nice ruby red color, but no head at all. The smell is loaded with tart cherries and oak, it is also acidic and the horse blanket is lower than in others, but I prefer it this way. Taste is acidic right off the bat, tart cherries and oak are blended nicely with some horse blanket coming through in the finish. This one had very low carbonation and the mouthfeel was medium bodied, with the finish being somewhat dry. This one was pretty good, and I’d say taste is higher than 4, but I can’t give a 4.5. I also can’t say I’ll be getting this again as it’s just not worth the extremely high price I have to pay to get it. stefanje (483), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA Jul 1, 2008 375 ml bottle from SBD. Pours a dark purple color with a small pink head that soon recedes to nothing. The aroma is overtly sour with grapes, cherries and a bit of funk. The flavor is likewise very sour and tart with cherries, grapes and a hint of granny smith apple. The mouthfeel is light but satisfying with soft carbonation. The finish is short, dry and sour. I paired this with Comte cheese and they went together superbly. Overall: This is a very fine sour beer. Recommended. DarkMagus (410), San Jose, California, USA Jun 30, 2008 A subdued pop from the cork on this one, and very little carbonation... a bit of fizzing during the pouring but no head left behind. Very sweet-and-sour, funky, fresh cherry aroma with a hint of the bretty, musty sourness to come... Flavors were ultra sour, very little sweetness, a nice dose of the fresh cherry flavor, and a tiny bit of bitterness. Lots of lingering funkiness, very mouth-watering stuff... the only thing stopping me from chugging it is the fact that it is RIDICULOUSLY SOUR. But still, perfect on a hot day, super refreshing, excellent stuff. Very tart, bone-dry finish. Can’t wait to have MORE...
