Oude Kriek 3 Fonteinen is produced by ripening of cherries (both the flesh and the seeds) in young Lambic. This process takes between 6 to 8 months. After bottling the beer matures for at least 4 months in a warm room where the spontaneous fermentation in the bottle is done.
The head of Oude Kriek is very sensitive to the concentration of the cherry seeds containing oil and may differ from one year to the other.
On old Cherry 3 Fonteinen, no flavorings, sweeteners, or dyes added which makes this beer very natural and is especially thirst quenching.

Note: Recent labels may show the beer to contain 35% of Schaerbeekse Krieken.

12.7 oz bottle from the Davis Beer Shoppe. Bottled on January 27, 2012. The aroma on this is delightful, with some sweet cherry notes, before a more funky, tart, barnyardy character comes through. A bit musty, but very nicely aromatic. Moderately hazy ruby-colored body with a small, bubbly pink head. Decent retention. Bottle opened with a very small pfft. Starts quite tart, and astringent. Some sour cherry fruitiness comes through in the middle. Finishes with some woody tannins, more acidity, and a touch of pimento olive. Quite dry, but well-balanced and drinkable. Really nice stuff.

375 ml corked & caged green bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5%. Red colour, moderate pink head. Lovely aroma of sour cherries and brettanomyces / farmhouse kitchen. Sour and tart flavour, medium dry, sour cherries galore, also lemony notes.

Colour was very cloudy, lacked flavor compared to other cherry beers. Head went in seconds, fizz also lasted seconds... Disappointed

375ml bottle from 05-2014. Pours ruby with a fizzy pink head that dissipates in an instant, but leaves a thin lacing. Aroma is definitely cherry with lambic yeast, barnyard, a hint of vinegar and mint. Light body, slick feel, sparkling carbonation. Taste is deliciously tart and refreshing with sour cherry (both flesh and stone), lemon and a hint of sharp cheese towards the dry finish. Pure lambic!

The color is like a pastel tint of red, with a head that is pinkish. The head diasappears quickly, with a lot of fizzing. The aroma is sour, but is somewhat softened by the cherries. The taste is also sour. The cherries give it a nice taste, whitout making it a sweet beer. Carbonation is relatively high. Nice beer.

Pours a deep dark blood red with fizzy deep pink head. Beautiful. Aromas are barnyard and oak mostly. Quite sour. Sour cherry, funky horse stable flavors. Almost no sweetness. Delicious.
