COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oude Kriek 3 Fonteinen is produced by ripening of cherries (both the flesh and the seeds) in young Lambic. This process takes between 6 to 8 months. After bottling the beer matures for at least 4 months in a warm room where the spontaneous fermentation in the bottle is done.
The head of Oude Kriek is very sensitive to the concentration of the cherry seeds containing oil and may differ from one year to the other.
On old Cherry 3 Fonteinen, no flavorings, sweeteners, or dyes added which makes this beer very natural and is especially thirst quenching.

Note: Recent labels may show the beer to contain 35% of Schaerbeekse Krieken.

75cl bottle at home, 1996 vintage. This bottle was corked, capped and very dusty. The cork was very long...so long that I lost the end of it into the beer. The pour produced a crystal clear bright ruby beer with still a huge amount of colour remaining (almost as much as a new bottle). The smell was fantastic! No oxidisation at all and I mean none!! It smelled of cinnemon, nutmeg, clove and cherry. Almost like a christmas spiced beer. Everyone that tried it said that they had never experienced a Kriek with such a christmas flavour. As we went down the bottle the sourness was more pronounced and the pours where becoming very murky. There was a huge amount of sediment in this bottle. This may well be the most gracefully aged beer Ive ever had. Everyone agreed that it could easily last another 10 years.

5oz taster at Rincon Valley Taproom. Pours a bright pink color without much head. Nice fresh cherry flavor and mild sourness.

3 Fonteinen Oude Kriek ’14 vintage Pours a fiery, ruby-red color, with a small, quickly dwindling head. Offers one of the most perfect aromas I have ever experienced, mainly defined by ripe, slightly earthen cherries. Comes along with a gentle fruit entangled sourness, not too acidic, while exhibiting fermented, ripe fruit the most pleasant way. Features an incredible soft mouthfeel, bursting with fruit, while providing a refreshing body. Tastes almost like cherry juice, while being fuller bodied. The tart sourness acts as a peak to the ripe cherry fruits, revealing funky yogurt, a whiff of old, dried lemon peel and incredibly profound cherry stone qualities with marzipan, earth and fruit pulp. Drinks hillariously easy, as the beers sourness is just one tiny part of the overall taste, with a pleasant but naturally fitting fruity sweetness, gently balanced by the leathery tartness. Finishes with even more visible cherry stones and musty malts, wrapped up by cherry pulp, cherry skin and lemon peel, leaving the palate with an enjoyable, gentle sourness. Easily the most intense appearance of cherry I have ever experienced in a beer. It features cherry from the beginning till the end, while opening with unusually ripe fruits, being able to turn even riper while drinking. Still provides a soft, mineralic mouthfeel, letting the cherries remain enjoyable, while getting joined by crisp lemon, producing a fantastic, irresistable, complex taste.

Pours deep purple/pink with a pinkish, quickly dissipating head. Aroma of sourness, light funk, cherries, light malts, and hints of an earthy note. Flavor the same with lots of sourness and cherries and some funk.

Bordeaux with small pink head. Aroma of wild yeast with little hints of fruit. Sour taste of lambic with really little hints of cherry.

Pours a deep red with no head. Cherry aroma but not overwhelming. Nice tart taste and then a touch of sweetness.

Bottle from BIAB Mostly clear ruby color with a decent sized pink tinged head that dissipates quickly. Earthy funky musty cherry juice makes up most of the nose. The flavor is a bit vinous with tart cherries and funkified earth. Moderate carbonation with a medium to light body. Great stuff.

Head disappears immediately and the beer looks sad, like it is sitting there already for hours. Aroma is very nice, cherries, wood, cherry pits. Color is bright clear red. Taste is not bad but quite sour and I prefer sweeter krieks. Slightly disappointed though.

2004 vintage, bottle to glass, at the Kulminator. Pours a clear pinkish red color with a whitish pinkish head. Aroma is dry, cherries, touch of tartness. Flavor has a balanced sweet and tart cherry, but I think much of it has faded over past 11 years. Probably deserves another rating a bit more fresh.

sweet, perfumy, soft, cherry aroma. a little funky and a little woody, but not much. pours purple with beautiful pink head. lightly tart, sweet, and cherry flavor. some unripe raspberry/blackberry notes as well. a little woody and not very funky for a lambic. easy drinking, but would have liked more barnyard funk and more sourness.
