4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured from a 2011 750 mL bottle into a tulip.
There is a soft ’pop’ as the cork is released, and the pour into my glass has an energetic level of carbonation. The beer itself is a hazy dark pink rapsberry color throughout, with a few resplendent bubbles visibly rising from the bottom of glass. A gentle off-white head relaxes to a ring around the edge for most of the glass.
A robust cherry aroma is not overly strong but is definitely the most noticeable aroma. At first the cherries seem sweet and creamy, but there is a slightly sharp tartness that adds a little bit of an edge. Lemony lambic notes, tannic cherry skin, and some oaky red wine notes. As it warms the farmyard funk comes through, although it is not dominant by any means.
The Schaerbeekse cherries come through immediately. Once the fruit base is set, the tartness starts to build, bringing in notes of lemon and oak, and a bit of tannic vinous fruit. The lambic in the form of lactic acidity and the sweet cherries play off of each other for the majority of the sip. Just a bit of Bretty funk adds a background complexity. There is a mineral note in the finish.
As compared to some other fruit lambics, this has a somewhat richer body and creamier nature. The carbonation is smooth and gentle as opposed to crisp, which makes it feel undercarbonated at times. In reality, it is simply more of a subtle carbonation to go along with its subtle flavor. Even though it is tart and sour, I do not sense that it is overly acidic.
I enjoyed drinking this Kriek for sure. My fruit lambic preference goes to Cantillon, but this is a serious lambic.

Sampled many times, finally rating. Pours a deep garnet color with minimal head. Deep rich aromas of cherry pie filling, baking spice, oak, citric acid, hints of cranberry. Dry, sour palate with thorough flavors of cherry preserve, cherry skin, and cherry pie filling. Additionally there is oak, lemon, and wet hay/funk notes. Very solid.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20

Deep, deep cherry lambic with a strong tart nose and taste. The mouthfeel is surprisingly smooth, with an assured acidity.

4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Muuu! Muuu!

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured from bottle into sample glass (Kriek-off): Pours deep purple with a decent pink head. This reminds me a bit of grape juice with some cherries in it. A bit metallic, but certainly not poison like Ernesto states. A bit medicinal at the back end. Really not bad at all.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Pour is ruby red - nose is tart cherries, a touch herbal. Taste is mouth puckering cherries, herbs, yogurt, really tart without being overly acidic. Creamier mouthfeel than typical for the style.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured from 750 to glass. Pink hue with light pink fizzy head that dissipated quickly. Aroma is acetic, white pepper, cherry. Mouthfeel is good with light body and high carbonation. Taste is dry throughout with a spicy astringentness in the following coupled with sour. CO2 sharpness throughout the finish. Overall this was an interesting brew. Not as cherry fruit as some Kreiks that I’ve had...more of a cherry pit taste.
